    NATO hitch

I'm still concerned about it being too big, I have about a 6" lift between suspension and body and iv still bent my rear bumper up so adding the NATO hitch will create a bigger overhang (at the hitch) and therefor even less clearance so I'm still not sure ill use it but worst case my friend...

    NATO hitch

The reason for the picture is far too many people sell "NATO hitches" which aren't the proper ones. If you click your own link and look at the 2nd picture you will see exactly what I didn't want. Cheers mark

Spliting steering drop arm to replace dust cover.

Put a large bar/lever between the steering bar and drop arm, get someone to lever it off while you hammer the drop arm and it will pop off. A few sharp hits with a hammer should do it. Watch out as it will come off with a bang so keep feet and arms clear from under the bar. Cheers mark

    Gearbox Input shaft

Iv done a lot of clutches over the years and never used an alignment tool. I get it all in position roughly. Hold the pressure plate on. Put the bolts in but don't tighten them. Just on a few threads so its just holding the clutch plate. Then you can eye up the clutch plate with the centre of...

How bad is wrong the wrong diff oil?

Ah ok. I'm only really clued up on 200,300tdi's. the ep90 I have is dark green. Used it again tonight so i know for sure. The 80/90 I have is like golden syrup. (Doesn't taste the same tho). Mark

How bad is wrong the wrong diff oil?

The prices you've said seem fine to me, a gallon of good oil for the engine can be got as cheap as £12. It sounds like ep90 in your front and rear Diffs. It's very thick and a dark green colour to begin with. Iv changed diff oil after a few hundred miles in mine and its already black with...

    Locking Wheel nut removal tool

Only other option but it might wreck the alloy is to try to weld a nut on the end of it and undo it with that. That would be my last option tho.

How many iron filings on a drain plug should I put up with?

Just any degreaser. You can get done tins of foaming degreaser now which seems quite good. Basically just spray it over everything. Agitate what you can with a brush. Then rinse off.

How many iron filings on a drain plug should I put up with?

That sounds about the same as the last 4 discovery boxes iv done, its normally the same in both the transfer and gearbox. I wouldn't worry too much about flushing it. The whole point of the magnet is to catch the metal so you will prob find the bulk of it is stuck to it. Best thing you could...

coolant loss from expansion tank puzzeling

Heres how i do it: Ok start by removing plug from radiator and thermostat housing. Start filling expansion tank until coolant/water flows from top of radiator, screw this plug back in. Continue filling through expansion tank until the level in the tank is right then screw the lid on the...

    Locking Wheel nut removal tool

Have you tried a chisel and hammer, I recently removed a few like that. Just depends if you can get into it or not. Mark

    Noise from clutch?

Iv had 2 boxes in mine, I swapped it as I was getting a rattley grinding noise. Swapped the box and its the exact same. After a lot if reading up the boxes just sound like that but as said change the oil and see how you get on. Remember and make sure you can get the fill plug out before you try...

    Noise from clutch?

I got that but a grind and a clunk are 2 complete different sounds thetefor probably 2 different things. just bear in mind even when you are in neutral half the gearbox is spinning. The boxes are known for sounding "rough" so to speak and it might be worth checking your oil level as the grind...

    Noise from clutch?

A grind and a clunk are going to be 2 different things. I would start by checking your prop shaft UJ's. they can cause a clunk. Other than that you need to try and work out exactly where it's coming from.

    Help with off road site.

Hi guys, I'm a bit if a regular at Lamancha off road site just south of Edinburgh. Unfortunately the owner if the site has been inspected by sepa after claims that muddy water has been flowing down the waterways, we know this is not us as there is a pond at the end of the site and when our...

    Swing away arm disco help

Fair enough. Could probably get a "hinge" type mechanism made pretty cheaply here by any decent blacksmiths. It might be worth looking into getting a custom rear bumper fabricated which it could be mounted onto. Mark
