    does anyone know this pipe

Aah, makes a lot of sense!

    does anyone know this pipe

Do they run a vac pump on the patrols then? I'm used to vac on petrols being taken from the inlet manifold, meaning any vac leak is a leak of unregulated air downstream of the MAF sensor normally resulting in rough running. Rich

    does anyone know this pipe

Although if the end coming out of the dash is melted off, the other end must be open somewhere so presumably theres a vac leak meaning no cruise at all and running rough?

    DRL's Are Good... Aren't They???

On the subject of modern DRLs only lighting the front, I've wondered why this is. I understand that the vast majority of modern cars with DRLs probably also have auto headlights so in theory they shouldn't ever be driving in the dark on only DRLs, but still, what's the disadvantage of having...

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

Nahh, no EGR on ours, it's an N so too early for that. It's was definitely some kind of attempt at a tuning type chip to trick the pump into more fuel, i just don't think it was having much effect. Rich

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

Exactly, only judging by the lack of smoke either it was doing a good job of upping the boost to burn the extra fuel or (more likely I think) it wasn't very effective! Rich

    P38A Indicator cancelling

Ours seems from the cancelling ring that it should cancel around ten and maybe four ish, in reality you've normally done it manually before it does. For a car as high quality and expensive as the RR this doesn't seem like it's how it should be though! Infact, even in a defender I think I...

    P38A Indicator cancelling

hi all, Can anyone tell me at what point the indicators normally cancel? Ours cancel at odd positions of the steering wheel (not straight ahead) but having stripped it all down and looked at the pins which interact with the indicator switch to do the cancelling this seems entirely predictable...

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

Well finally we're back on the road for good hopefully! After my last update it was up and running but I wasn't happy about the timing chains and after all that work wasn't going to let the engine get damaged by timing chains and guides that had been on a questionably maintained engine for...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Finally finished reassembling, no light left now and the battery had been disconnected while I was away leaving, 'Key Code Lockout,' on so first start will be tomorrow. Manage to get the dog guard fitted in the dark though so that's one more job off the list. Got the other half's 306 to...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I go for the cheap option these days. Boiled linseed oil. Normally have to appply once a year or so on Kirsty's 306 to keep them looking reasonably fresh and I've only ever done the Volvo once in about two years - I think because the plastics are smoother. The science is that it is similar to...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

New timing chains on ready to give the tools back to Grrr this week :) thanks again for lending me them! Hopefully by the end of next week we should have a fully functional Range Rover again as I think the long period of just a fiat punto is starting to wear thin! Unfortunately I have to go to...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Maybe, shame but it would probably have been very expensive if they had, and I doubt I'd have the special tools that might require. It genuinely feels like almost the entire engine is currently in the boot and I can't even see most of the timing chain yet! I'm used to my VW diesel in my...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Feeling Deja vu. Spent today stripping the engine back down to change the timing chains. I swear after this work it will be back into regular use but I'm not so sure anyone else believes that at the moment! Out of interest, why did BMW choose to attach absolutely everything to the timing...

    A Merry Christmas?

Merry Christmas all. Have a great 2017 and here's to reaching destinations without needing the AA to help this coming year! Rich

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

No, I haven't changed the chains and sprockets yet, to be honest I want to be sure it's not going to blow another HG before spending another £300 on chains and sprockets. I expect that we will change them in the next few months or so but I haven't decided where to get them from although I got...

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

Yeah, checked it what feels like about half a dozen times. Seems to start and run better than before based on the one time I restarted it yesterday so I guess it's ok. First time I checked it it was at about .3mm at TDC which made no sense since I hadn't done anything to affect the pump timing...

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

So it runs! I'm not goinnto say it's fixed until I've done the last tighten of the head bolts and given it a run but it starts happily and seems to run ok :) Seems like the issues was of the battery needing a proper charge so that I could keep cranking longer, seems like the injectors need...

    P38A 2.5 Diesel - What Head Gasket

Seems like the most certain way of checking, absolutely no uncertainty in the keyway. I'm fairly sure it's not wrong but I can't think what else it could be! Cheers. Rich
