    Towing with 300tdi discovery

I tow horses with our TD5 and it's the same. 50 is my limit with horses on the back but more like 40 on twisty bumpy country roads. On long hills it is necesary to just select a gear that gives you 2000 rpm on a light throttle (often 3rd) and just let it run up at that speed. 2 horses + tack +...

    2003 GS D2 40k miles - £10k - is this realistic?

I think prices of low mileage ones have increased, possibly because it's the last practical Discovery to be able to afford to run. D3 and 4 may be great cars but they are far too expensive and complicated to maintain for many of us..................

    2003 GS D2 40k miles - £10k - is this realistic?

I am on the look out for a better Discovery and have seen a few around this price with that sort of mileage. As far as I am concerned, the lower the spec the better as for a long term car there is less to go wrong. It's not unreasonable for a low mileage discovery 2 IF that is what you want...

    hello

Yes the clutch is heavy and also a bit low as standard. I made a pedal template, cut out a steel plate and bolted it to the pedal around 20mm higher, (obviously pedal rubber is now on the spaced out plate) This brings the clutch pedal to the same height as the brake, it's still heavy of...

    Disco 2 Gearbox Oil choice

My Disco 2 (Manual) also has slightly poor synchro and needs deliberate gear changing to avoid crunching, it's on 145,000 is this just normal or might an oil change help? Is it fairly easy to drain /refill the box?

    Lazy Puma EGR Solution?

Dont know much about it but surely the EGR is simply reporting an acceptable resistance to the ECU? So just measure the resistance, pop down to Maplins and get a resistor of the right value and connect it to the wires?????? no need for the EGR at all...............

What millage are everyones td5's on? problems?

Ours has 145k with minimal service history, but drives OK and engine feels very strong. New radiator and lots of new water pipe clips make me think the head gasket may have been done but I cannot be sure. Ours needed a clutch, and work on propshafts and various other bits, but think of a Landy a...

    Gear box problem?

Ours is tetchie on changing gear due to old syncro, try changing gear slowly and deliberately and let the lever find its way into gear rather than just changing gear like a new modern car! Imagine you are driving a lorry and you wont go far wrong!!!!

Landrover discovery td5 landmark 2004 mint

I have seen a few autotrader adverts hacked and different contact details entered with a similar story, often they substitute text for photos, and always the price is more or less halved.....doubt if it is anything to do with the original advertiser..................

TD5 not pulling as should and doing poor mpg??

Thats 24 mpg which isnt far out (especially if its an auto which you havnt stated) If the owner is new to a Discovery and trying to drive it like a car that could also be a major contributor.

    EGR Removal?

If anything emissions will be reduced by removing EGR, no problem with the MOT

Getting my Disco 2 as economic and efficient as poss'

forgot to mention you can take the viscous fan off in the colder months to aid warm up time and prevent over cooling. There appears to be no issue with this even when towing.

    rear wheel balance

Sorry if it's a daft question but I have vibration which results in body boom at about 55 mph plus such that it is my practical maximum speed. Front and rear propshafts have been refurbished and there is no evidence of excessive vibration through the gear lever or transfer box lever. (which I...

Getting my Disco 2 as economic and efficient as poss'

As a guide, our TD5 does 27 mpg mostly short journeys and/or towing a heavy horse trailer (and horse!!) I have always tried to drive economically, and would echo what Dave says, it isn't a car and we go places now at "Landy speed". Pull away steadily, gentle change into second (synchro isn't...

    Disco 2 TD5 Buyers Guide/pointers?

In all honesty there are better cars around for that purpose!!!!! Ours was bought to tow a 2 horse trailer, and other than in the snow we dont use ours that much. There are not a cheap beast to keep going we were faced with a £1600 bill for new clutch, refurb propshafts, master cylinder...

drivers door not unlocking with key fob

our rear door is the same, try pressing and holding unlock a second time and see if it pops up (ours does slowly!)

She won't unlock in the mornings?

ours forgets the keys signal and wont unlock remotely if left for 24 hours or so. Can unlock the drivers door and the remote then works to disable the alarm. It is almost certainly the receiver which is in the roof towards the back, water gets in and gradually degrades them it seems or the earth...

    chassis rot

I'd love to do this myself, cleaning up all the bits as I went. Stripped and rebuilt a classic mini and it was great fun, need to figure out how to lift the body high enough to clear the chassis............ Well, how about taking all the doors off, 4 blokes to lift the shell over the chassis...
