Hi all,
Recently bought my first Landrover Discovery (2000, 2.5 TD5).
since then its developed a problem with, i think, the gear box.
it seems to crunch when i am driving and i try and put it into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
4th and 5th are fine though.
is this maybe a clutch problem, or am i looking at something a bit worse?
anyone have any ideas?

Is it better if you pump the clutch pedal or does it still crunch?

Does it get worse after a long drive and the gearbox gets hot?

Does it only do when going up the gears or down or both?

If it was the clutch I'd expect it to be a problem in every gear going up and down.

The R380 gearbox can be a problem with old gearbox oil after a long high speed drive, changing the oil normally sorts this out. If pumping the clutch pedal makes things easier then either the master or slave cylinder needs changed.

Worst case the syncro gears are away and you'll need a new gearbox soon.

Ours is tetchie on changing gear due to old syncro, try changing gear slowly and deliberately and let the lever find its way into gear rather than just changing gear like a new modern car!

Imagine you are driving a lorry and you wont go far wrong!!!!
