    P38A 4.6 V8 MY2000 overheating. Intermittent

I ran with a stat that had failed open (effectively bypassing it) for ages. When hot it only just got out of the blue zone. Ran fine though, no issues at all. I almost prefer it as these things run way too hot in my opinion. As soon as I put a new genuine LR stat in my problems started

First time I logged on in a week or so, I do not like it either........ But I hope it will grow on me.

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Update. Resolved! Squeak gone, vibration gone. Front propshaft. A UJ had worn to the status of "really bad" and had damaged the yoke too. I am so glad it did not fall off. Thanks to my local indie specialist Ray at RHunt4x4 who I turn to for anything I cannot do myself. He sourced a...

Not a for a home DIY job then for an amateur....... I better look at getting a quote. I would imagine a competent professional could do both in 2 hours + parts? Cheers

Ah, hang on. Looks like STC2808. Thanks

Will this cause vibration also? Is the pinion bearing RTC6751? If so, 1 in each diff casing? Cheers

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Ok another quick update. Still squeaks and vibrates. I now notice that it happens accelerating up a hill, or coasting down a hill. If I attempt to coast up a hill all is not as bad, or accelerate down a hill it is not as bad. Flat and level it seems relatively fine most of the time. This is...

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Quick update. Not got to the UJs yet as I need another helper to turn the wheel while I check, or vice versa. Should sort that out by the end of the week with any luck. Decided to try and rule out diffs/final drive and change the oil. Front oil was at the right level (so it seemed) and when...

OK. or I could rturn the wheel why somebody else watches their fingers :)

I know that :D I guess that would need to be in a neutral gear too? Thanks

Double scotch? It is not even lunchtime, and what if I prefer bourbon? Double chock? So with in neutral, one front wheel on an axle stand and then move it to one rear? Transfer box? Cheers

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Yep noted. Thanks. They look relatively simple to assess for wear. Searching around online I found a Youtube Video where the guy's P38 has an almost identical squeak to mine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0pQ4A1wWAA So with that in mind I think I will change the diff oil in...

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Thanks guys I will check them over tomorrow. Happy to slip an axle stand under the chassis while there. I just left the tailgate open earlier today and was quick about it, hence missing a nipple or two. Was unsure how to check the UJs but will research a bit more. Cheers

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

So I guess the best plan of action is inspect the UJs, pump as much grease into them and the end of the props as I can. I think I only found 4 nipples and Datatek says there are 6 on a P38. I will check and pack them with grease then see if the noise/vibration really has gone. If not, then I...

    Annoying squeaking while driving.

Wheel bearings sound like a nightmare. Island 4x4 site says "This item requires professional fitting (Not for DIY!!)" To be honest I just fitted new front bearings to my other car, that was a pig of a job even with a heat torch and proper bearing / race driving tools. UJs sounds worrying too.
