Update. Resolved!

Squeak gone, vibration gone.

Front propshaft. A UJ had worn to the status of "really bad" and had damaged the yoke too. I am so glad it did not fall off.

Thanks to my local indie specialist Ray at RHunt4x4 who I turn to for anything I cannot do myself. He sourced a second hand prop that was in good condition and replaced it for under £100.

I took it up to him to get a professional opinion and he would not let me drive it home it was that bad. Instead he loaned me another P38.

I cannot recommend these guys enough, great service far beyond expectation and fair and honest too.

So glad to have her back on the road and safe too.

Thanks to all for your help and replies anyway.

I had a small squeak which I can confirm is the rear uj on the front prop. Didn't sound very bad but the end caps (if that's what they are called) are slaughtered, no bearings in them! And the uj is worn oval. One of the bolts that hold the prop shaft has a lump missing and one of the yokes has a large bit of damage on it. New hardy spicer prop ordered of ebay for £112.65 delivered. So at the first sign of a squeak stop driving yours and check it! Better still get underneath this weekend and grease all the nipples you can find and check the condition of them.

Hi All

Can somebody help me get rid of the most annoying squeak I have heard on this lovely vehicle.

It started suddenly and is related to forward and reverse, not related to engine speed, but is very much related to road speed.

From about 5mph to to 20 it is very loud. Quietens down around 40mph, but shudders a little through the steering (and through the chassis it feels) around 30mph.

Putting my foot on the accelerator the noise stops, foot off and let it coast and the noise is back.

Happens in any gear so it seems, although I use it in drive most of the time.
Slowing down it also makes the noise, and then shudders again but far more of a shudder, going below 15-20 mph.

I really thought it was the brakes, it is a noise just like a pad getting to the metal on metal stage. My discs were worn and pads very low but there was a little material left.
However, in the last week or so I have replaced the following:
New discs all around.
New pads all around.
New caliper carriers all around. (due to seized pins).
New bolts for above.
New brake fluid.

I have grease gunned the propshaft, as many nipples as I could find.
Noise still present, vibration too at low speed braking and acceleration.

Has anybody got any idea what this noise could be?

Thanks in advance.
James
If it is only when the engine is hot and squeals only when you lift off the accelerator then I had the same problem. It was fixed by tightening the manifold bolts. The squealing (which was very loud) was the release of hot gas between the different expanding metals. Tighten the bolts and the tiny gap and squealing is gone.

Hopefully, after four years since last post on this, it's already fixed ;)
