    P38A Passed another MOT

Oooooooooooooooooooo. looks like it is maybe best to go with Dexron II and not III. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/transfer-box-oil-dexron11d-or-dexron-111.133952/ Or is that just the transfer box? But: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/auto-atf-dexron-2-or-3.200035/

P38A Getting the alternator back in.

I just squirted with my preferred penetrating oil (whichever I find to hand) and rocked mine back and forth until it loosened up, also used a length of wood to pry the whole thing. I went for a new Voltage regulator on mine as the alternator itself was fine (not bad for a 24-year-old Magneto...

    P38A Passed another MOT

I just wanted to share the good news. My faithful 1996 4.6 HSE has made it through another MOT. One advisory, drag link closest to the steering box has some excess play. Ordered a new one ready to fit once I can find the time. Gone for the full drag link (instead of just the end) as I suspect...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

News, it's fitted. The VR, no new diode pack installed. Just cleaned up slip rings and in general. Instantly 14.2V rising to 14.5v and just at idle, not at 2K and not tested on load with headlights. I was already impressed enough at the increase in volts. PLUS, my "alternator fault" message...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Just a quick update on my situation. Partly for the sake of an update, partly as I noticed my post count is 666  and so I thought it best not to leave it there too long. My voltage measured at the battery terminals @ 2000 rpm is 13.8V and slowly rises to 13.9V.but does not go above. I...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

I was hoping somebody could have replied to your query because I cannot. Best email Dave at Mid-Ulster Rotating Electrics Ltd if you know the make you have.....

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

That is what I am going to do. It's an easy job to take it off compared to what I just went through on my Jag. At least I can remain standing. :-)

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Excellent, yes David from Mid-Ulster Rotating Electrics Ltd has just confirmed that too. A new one ordered. Thanks for your help with that. Cheers

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Thanks. It looks like the VR does not come with brushes. With the mileage I have maybe it is worth replacing the brushes too. What do you think? Cheers

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

I have just seen the other replies about maintaining the original. It certainly makes sense, cheaper and maintains the higher quality part. Looked a the link but they do not seem to have the VR when searching by vehicle. Will spend more time looking........

I have just found Island 4x4 do AMR2938G - A genuine Denso for £116+VAT. Seems a good price.

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Well with the message of "Alternator Fault" combined with quite high mileage and possible low voltage (its not here to double check) then it sounds like I am probably best advised to buy a new one. Back to the original question. Can anybody recommend any particular make? I can get the...

    P38A Replacement alternator AMR2938

Hi Guys I need to replace my alternator which is an original Magneto Marelli. It's got a low output (not surprising being 24 years old) and I get a flat battery on regular occasions. The battery is also about 7 years old (non-brand name). I am aware of the battery drain issues, especially with...

    P38A GEMS idle problem

OK, I am not going to have a go at fixing it. As promised some pics. Strange clear gel between board and heatsink on rear.

    P38A GEMS idle problem

I will see what I can do to satisfy our curious minds. Not losing anything by it as its knackered.

    P38A GEMS idle problem

Agreed. She is purring like a cat again at idle. Are MAFs repairable? I was thinking of opening it to have a look, but I am guessing it is a fairly simple circuit between the connector and the wire. +5v reference and ground plus a return signal for the voltage to the ECU..?

    P38A GEMS idle problem

Yes internally the one I picked up (essentially for free) despite the blue dot has the same internals as the interim with the metal RFI shield on the board. Is it worth swapping out for this one? I know the one I have on the car at the moment has a blue dot too, not looked inside, but it does...

    P38A GEMS idle problem

Yes I was getting excited too. I saw it there and could not remember what colour dot was good news. Its a blue. Not until I got home that my extra level of excitement dwindled........

    P38A GEMS idle problem

Hi All here is an update. I swapped the MAF for one from a scrap yard and its all back to normal. Starts instantly and idles around 700 pm, in fact, it has never idled so smoothly. Picked up loads of spares too from the old P38 that was being torn apart. TPS, IACV, all temp sensors, grabbed a...
