P38 ABS removal? Just wondered if it's been done.

Out to get the papers this morning in the white stuff, had to brake a bit hard for a couple of deer crossing . ABS ticking away, doing its thing, kept it straight and pulled up quick.:) The other thing in this weather is traction control which is dependent on the ABS.

P38 What does it need to become a good daily driver?

1999 with only 98k? That's just run in! ;) Mine's 200k + Hence I suspect, my timing chain stretch :( Recently re-set static timing of fuel pump so it is running sweetly once again while I sort myself out to replace chains and sprockets in the new year.

P38 What does it need to become a good daily driver?

Mine is a 2001 DT, which I've had for five years. It was serviced regularly by main dealer until I got it. I was fortunate and am only the second owner. There's been a few things have needed doing but I don't think anything beyond what you could expect from a 20 year old vehicle. Tempting fate -...

Sexuality aside...;) Trying to adjust static timing of FIP with a mallet... RAVE points out that 'final movement of the pump should be towards the engine'. There will be backlash otherwise. As I (and many others) have said, it is not that hard a job to do it properly (dial gauge etc.)

    P38A Timing chain and FIP

BigAd, there's a post a few pages back called 'Hot Start Fix' where there is a bit of discussion about this. I had starting problems too. I am no great mechanic but was able to do the static timing. This was my post after it was done. It took all day but think about having a go yourself... Good...

    P38A hot start mod

'Morning All, eventually got round to doing the static timing, as suggested, and according to RAVE. What an amazing difference! One of the best jobs I have done for immediate gratifying results. Cold start still perfect, tickover now smooth and at 850rpm (after initial warming up) and hot start...

    Cd cartridge

I too have had some trouble with the CD changer sticking but I don't think it is the cartridge. I've taken the changer out, taken the cover off, and carefully lubricated the mechanism. Obviously being sure that you don't get oil or grease on anywhere near the CD holder or play area. This is best...

    P38A hot start mod

And there I was feeling a bit more hopeful this morning after reading Rangeroller's post ;) Borrowed time! Thanks Grrrrrr! Nanocom shows modulation is way out so I doubt if it is correctly set. Lift pump output is good as are bleed pipes etc. I'm going to re-set the timing properly (gauge etc...

    P38A hot start mod

About 200 from a quick look online. But I've set things in motion to borrow what's needed. ;) Bit of a worry now, I hadn't thought about it jumping a cog! Does that happen?!

    P38A hot start mod

you can adjust the static with dti kit, eventually it will jump a cog or go bang without renewing the chains. I have seen few get away with jumping a cog and resetting timing, it depends how far they’ve gone? Welcome back :) Thanks Roller! Good to see you all still here! I've had the most...

    P38A hot start mod

Thanks Grrrrrr. I'm trying to source the tools needed to do the static timing. A bit frustrating knowing that the local main dealers have all the tools, boxed up and unused because they are not interested in doing anything on old P38s. And then last night the drivers inside door handle seems to...

    P38A hot start mod

No management light, no threat of stalling. Just rough tickover and difficult hot starting. Static timing procedure in RAVE seems to allow for wear (Engines with more than 20k kilometres ). Mine has done more than 200k miles! Should I still do it according to RAVE or do the 'slacken the pump and...

    P38A hot start mod

Thanks Wammers. Yup, I suspected chain stretch. So what should I do now? Re-set static timing? Can this be done by slackening the FIP mountings and moving the pump?

    P38A hot start mod

Speaking of amateur experts... here I am!:D I've recently got a Nanocom and am learning how to use it. Got it primarily to see if I could sort out the difficult hot starting and a slightly rough tickover. It shows modulation as a percentage (93.5) when hot and idling. I suspect that this is way...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Just returned from (another) trip to South Wales. The old jalopy was faultless. Average speed over the 400 odd miles was 65 at 27.9mpg. I'm happy with that.:) Had a trip to Provence last week driving there in my brother's newish Jag. It is true - the roads in France are amazingly good compared...
