Difficult to say without hearing owt, but the chain tensioners are favorite. Vanos failing will throw up a fault, so a good start would be to code read. Then drop the sump as Saint suggests. It fairly involved but there are some great guides out there to walk you through. Best of luck with this...

Not sure but you could try holding the changeover button as you turn on the ignition, keep it held until the lpg light goes solid.

Thought you had done this weeks back. Seems a no brainer to me. You could try by passing the water pipes as mentioned and do a forced start on gas to get around the cold vaporiser sensor and see if you get gas from the water side of the vap.

Try pressing the sport button. See if that makes a difference . Just go with me on this one.

With no stat at all it creeps up to 100 ! after idling for any time - but Im putting this down to a ****e pump. Ive got a OE Hella pump to go in when the stat turns up. Ill report then.

Fine work fella. Im still waiting on my stat to turn up. Went for a genuine BMW 740d unit - £72 delivered. Will report (eventually) when it gets here.

It takes 5 mins to get the manifold of, I guantee it will take much longer than that fiddling around trying to do it with it I place.

Once water has found its way out through the pump shaft the bearings will deteriorate quickly. You do not want to be dealing with a complete failure and the ensuing damage - radiator, fan etc. change it now and take my advice and get genuine pump or at least an OEM from a reputable dealer.

Start off with testing the pump, but a pressure gauge and some push fitting and put the gauge direct on the outlet of the pump. I would expect to see 160 psi or there abouts.

From my research, the required stat is from a 7 series BMW 740d. Havent found anyone yet that can supply as yet over in the UK as this seems to be a left hand drive only motor. Ive mailed a couple more guys this weekend. If anyone wants to have a dig around this thread may be of help. Will...

Thanks Will, good information. I am starting to get a picture of what should be happening.

Let it cool right down, give it several hours and then take the header tank cap right off. You should see a small hole inside the neck. This is where I'm looking for a stream of coolant / dribble. It's only a small hole and hard to see so best wait till morning light.

One thing I may need to point out is this test needs to be done cold. These engines run at 105 deg so the cap needs to be off before it gets up to temperature otherwise we are going to have scolding water sloshing about - not good fo people nor engines ! So please people, be careful and let...
