Hi, I e got to change my faulty coil, packs on my 4.6 Thor and looking at rangerover.net it says the manifold has to come off. Has anyone managed to do it without stripping the top end off, and if so how? Thanks in advance. Jase.

Hi, yes, can be done without removing manifold, remove leads then lead holder brackets, it is a bit tight but you can squeeze hand in to undo bolts. Set car to lowest setting too.

Hi
I've never attempted this without taking the upper manifold off, but I use a bit of blu tac in the socket when removing and replacing the bolts will hopefully stop you from dropping them down the back of the engine. Enjoy.

Never used BluTac as normally just put a bit of electrical tape over the socket.
I found it easier to remove the manifold (big hands?)

I tried and failed miserably to do mine without stripping the upper manifold (large hands) - ended up doing it the "book" way in the end - didn't take long to be honest - quite a straightforward job. I used Britpart coil packs - bought individually £20 each - but if you buy the pair prefitted to the bracket (which you've already got) they are over £100! While I was in there I fitted a new ignition lead set.

Cheers guys, my brothers handy on the tools so he said he will have a crack at it tomorrow. I got my pair of coil packs and new leads off ebay for £75 with a two year warranty which I thought was a bargain. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again

It takes 5 mins to get the manifold of, I guantee it will take much longer than that fiddling around trying to do it with it I place.

Yep, the manifold had to come off in the end but the new packs are on along with the leads and plugs. She's now purring like a kitten again!

the only time I would change the coil packs without removing the upper manifold is when you have lpg fitted.
