    series 2a or 3 id

This fuel tank outrigger ... isn't it also meant to support the front of the tub ... or am I being a numpty?

Do full body fastener kits come with labels?

Wouldn't have thought a full 'body' fastener kit would come with much Whitworth ... from what I understand most Whitworth bolts on a landy are where any big stuff (axles, engines, gearboxes) are leftovers/same production as the earlier Series 1 equivalents. On a Whitworth spanner ... fyi ... a...

    series 2a or 3 id

the chassis carries the ID of the vehicle, and it's dead easy to tell the difference between 2a and 3 chassis - although it gets a little hazy around 1969. the easiest giveaway is how the front flexible brake pipes mount on the chassis (although there are a pile of other detail changes). if...

    B post blues

if you're going for a nice looking landy at the end of it you gotter get it straight somehow, even if it's (last resort) with 8mm of filler on the shoulder. looking down the shoulder line of any decent landy needs to be straight and it'll **** you off every time you look at it if it's out...

    Repainting

Got any pics you can post up? I've got something very big to paint soon (an 8-ton road roller!) and am most interested in using a paint roller instead of a brush. Smaller areas are great with a brush but I struggled a bit with the bigger bits - especially the bonnet, keeping a wet edge.

Oh - and as for the towing eyes - not sure I'm afraid. They came with a job lot of parts and I just stuck them on.

    Repainting

That paint came from Paddocks, it was a few years ago now, they were selling their synthetic enamel for £9 a litre. BUT, having done a few brush jobs on various things, I would probably get it mixed up from Tractol if I did it again. I didn't think the synthetic enamel from Paddocks was quite...

    Repainting

Marine blue gets my vote. When I did this one - 2 tubs of synthetic enamel did the whole thing - total cost £18. Oh, plus a half decent paintbrush.

    Bearings

in their favour ... a new non-genuine bearing is likely to be better than a knackered genuine one. And how many folk really do a lot of miles in their series? I imagine there's very few of us who rely on a series, day in, day out, as their only source of transport for 10,000 miles plus a year.

    Possibly an odd one.

fitting it 'onto a 2 1/4 diesel' is the easy bit. fitting the whole lot back into your series won't be. aside from mounting issues, I think the boxes are longer which means propshaft lengths probably need to be changed ... which if you have an 88" are fairly critical already. I vaguely recall...

    Chassis number/engine/bulkhead don't match up

The chassis, together with a couple of other major items - eg axles, suspension, steering, engine, transmission etc are enough to carry the ID of the vehicle - it is NOT related to the bodywork at all. you can find all about vehicle identities and the points system on DVLA website somewhere. So...

Land Rover series 3 88 diffs

If by 'diff head' you mean the complete lump that unbolts from the axle casing with the 12 or so circumferential bolts (having firstly withdrawn the axle halfshafts) - then Yes. Drive(/prop)shafts will bolt straight on without modification. Your speedo will need recalibration though. You...

    Conversion info leaving me confused.

A petrol 2286 engine might set you back £50 A 200TDI might set you back £350? The petrol does about 20MPG, the 200TDI about 30MPG Petrol at 1.16/litre is about £5.27/gallon Diesel at 1.18/litre is about £5.36/gallon So the fuel cost per mile is 27p (5.36/20) for the petrol and 18p...

    1964 2A help

Yes of course. If however it's been off the road for a while, it may be out of MOT and not insured ... in which case you can't get a tax disc for it at renewal time whether it's free or not.

    1964 2A help

AFAIK it has to be SORNed iff it's off the road, regardless whether it's Historic or not. Tax Exempt is a little bit of a misnoma, it still needs a Tax Disc, it's just free. I stand by to be corrected.

    1964 2A help

Quite possibly military, on the front bumper you can see where military bumperettes could have been fitted. The date of liability 01/01/2010 I think means your SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) statement is out of date. When you buy a vehicle that is off the road (on SORN), the SORN...

    1964 2A help

I'd wager that is indeed a 2a, but with a series 3 front end & grille. Look at the bulkhead windscreen mounts and the door hinges. OP - if it isn't already - you should be able to register this as a Historic Vehicle and get it exempted from road tax.
