My 200tdi is fairly refined for... a 200tdi lol but yes It would be awesome to have a Defender as quiet and refined as the new ones. But I just take comfort in the fact that mine doesn't rely on any ECUs to make the engine run, it's all mechanical.

I'd replace personally. They aren't very expensive if you look around.

Just swapped my axle the other day from a old 12sp to a discovery rear end. Straight swap. Been good so far. Did but on new brakes and bearings too though.

The last few times I've worked on mine, my hands look like they've been smashed in. Prolly cos they have when the hammer kept bouncing off :D
