Best engines are 200tdi, 300tdi and TD5. 200tdi being most basic of them and TD5 most modern / sophisticated. Depends on how mechanically simple you want it to be. Look at Defender buying guides that will explain everything to look out for. Good luck.

Have been using Bearmach as my main source of parts however for more important components I would likely use Genuine. I got an OEM rocker gasket and didn't last long. Will be replacing this time with a genuine part.

To my knowledge, it is to prevent damage to the radiator in the event of a rollover (as in so stop it from being crushed and stop you from getting home!)
