    Your Event ideas thread-yes really

Fact of life in the litigious times in which we live. I appreciate the effort folks are putting in. Most get-togethers are put on by professional organisations these days. Risk assessments, liability insurance, access requirements etc. are part of the reason. So for those doing it in their...

    Help

2 main possibilities come to mind (generic diesel knowledge, not LR 2.5-specific): 1. shut-off solenoid not wired up correctly / not fitted with plunger / faulty. 2. engine sucking oil and running on that once the fuel's shut off. I'd check the fuel shut-off first if I were you. Has been...

    Ignition button wiring.

Beats me. Sounds like you have a switch to control a relay which, in turn, should control whatever the starter switch (key) would normally control (ie the spider unit). So you've replaced one component (with the button) and added another (the relay). Have I got that right? The reference to...

    road tax question

I've met enough jobsworths in uniform to not risk the public highway without everything being straight. I've met plenty of decent coppers too, who'd understand that you're not trying to cheat the system, but it only takes one. Twice now I've spent 40 minutes+ explaining to people in uniform...

I assumed, it having no tax already, that it was already on SORN. May be worth the OP checking.

    road tax question

You can tax it today from either 01st March or 01st February (but you must make it clear if that's what you want to do) but for the sake of 4 days, I'd be planning on collecting it on Saturday. If you tax it as of 01st March, it will NOT be legal on the road before then.

    1st time off roading

Depends on where you're going and what you're hoping to do! Standard equipment's fine (but the tail's rather long on a Disco, particularly if you've a tow hitch) but road tyres are useless in mud. Biggest requirement is probably someone who's done it before and has a bit of common sense...

It always looks easy in the demo so it's not unreasonable to ask if there's any hidden nasties, I usually do if it's a first time with a new area. Let us know how it goes.

    disco busted again

There's no heater matrix on a Series 1 but that was the 1940s. I'm pretty sure Discos didn't use the aircon or electric for heating. (Mine's aircon-free, with a standard heater, which is good new for me). Easy check: Are there coolant hoses running behind the engine into the firewall? If so...

    disco busted again

My J**p Cherokee was classed as a truck to avoid US CAFE regs. The OP's spelling suggests that (s)he may hail from that side of the pond and I wouldn't be surprised if LR classified the Disco as a truck over there for the same reason. In which case I'm guessing it's a V8 with aircon. Not...
