Just bought a disco,no tax.Now it' nearly march,if i tax it tomorrow will it be legal to drive it home,or will i have to wait for 1st march.cheers. PS, Got insurance, mot,and green slip ready to tax it.

Your tax would back date to beginning of February, think you can tax it max of 5 days before the end of the month nut would not be valid until the first of march

You can tax it today from either 01st March or 01st February (but you must make it clear if that's what you want to do) but for the sake of 4 days, I'd be planning on collecting it on Saturday.

If you tax it as of 01st March, it will NOT be legal on the road before then.

you can't do that anymore, if you gap a month without sorning it expect a fine

if its a new to you car they will ask and give you one from march 1st, if its inbetween owners dvla will ignore the fine and let it go

I will tax it satureday morn, then bring it home. Not chancing it being taken off me.

Police can only take the car off you for no insurance - not having a valid RFL is "only" a dvla fine. Even no MOT is still just a fine.

Personally I have often bought a car and driven it home with no valid tax, but I always make sure I have insurance. I wouldnt then go driving it round willy nilly tho until ive taxed it as that increases chances of being caught on those auto camera thingies but you would be unlucky if that happened.

I've met enough jobsworths in uniform to not risk the public highway without everything being straight.

I've met plenty of decent coppers too, who'd understand that you're not trying to cheat the system, but it only takes one. Twice now I've spent 40 minutes+ explaining to people in uniform that I'm not doing anything illegal and then being read my rights. I'd far rather have proof that everything's straight.

(The one time I was, of course, I fessed up immediately. Overtaking a marked police car well above the speed limit is not to be recommended )
