very unlikely to be diffs giving problems unless they've been run dry of oil and burnt the bearings out which takes a bit of doing (changed one the other week where a hole had appeared in the diff pan which let the pinion bearing run dry and weld itself up) middle position on the "high/low"...

most vehicles with a turbo have the intercooler in front of the rad' and many have a air con' rad in front of it as well, "radiator pack" ring any bells i stuck a td5 intercooler across the front of my 200tdi rad' in my 109, i've not experienced any over heating problems even in the two years...

there is also a slim possibility that you have a blockage in the pipe or union over the rear axle stopping the fluid from returning to the mastercylinder i've obviously no idea as to when (if ever) that pipework was last replaced

a U.K. mot isn't worth the paper it's written on when buying an old landrover as that isn't a guarantee of condition either you really do need to go and examine that landrover in person, take a small hammer and a long screwdriver to check the chassis over carefully, check the bulkhead over...
