Water Pump Failed after 3000 miles!?

Yep.. it's always had 50% OAT coolant... surprised you can see corrosion on that photo... that part was only in for 3 months!? Is that grease ooze normal?... the new one just fitted had a sealed bearing so no grease evident... the O rings seemed to be doing their job, so I can only see the...

Water Pump Failed after 3000 miles!?

So I fitted a new pattern part about 3 months ago... had the weeping hole! Now checking my diff levels and noticed the weeping hole again  I have attached a photo of the failed unit... looks like the grease has been pushed through the bearing... all O rings look OK and appear to have...

    water pump and steering pump

Humpf.... maybe I should have shelled out for a garage to do the job... just checking my diff level this afternoon, only to see coolant leaking from the weep hole under the water pump!! It's been fine, up 'till now... if I had made a mistake when fitting that would have shown up sooner?? Is...

    Axle Compatability

Hi Guys... this looks like the best thread for my question: Which axles will fit the front of my 2001 90 TD5?... non vented discs, non ABS. If I go down the refurb route... what is the oldest/youngest axle I could go for?... are Disco 1 axles an option? Thanks in advance The Gribbin

    Front Axle Rebuild

Just out of interest, what were your CV joint symptoms? My 90's approaching 110K and has a bit of a vibration, and whine from the front end... so I'm preparing myself for a front axle refurb - what budget would you suggest?

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

I went to town on my 90 hard top... if you can get along to these guys near oxford, it's worth a trip, they did a great deal on some seconds. They know their stuff too and can advise as well as supply it all. Acoustic products, sound absorbing products, soundproofing foam from Sound Service I...

Just thought I'd have a look inside my old centrifugal oil filter after 7000 miles... lined with an impressive layer of tar!

    water pump and steering pump

I have the parts... and having now done the job... bloody fiddly - I guess that's why the garages quoted so high/weren't interested. Ended up leaving the frame/bracket in place... I didn't have any idea what gaskets/o rings I would have revealed by removing said frame/bracket, as it appears to...

    water pump and steering pump

When changing the water pump is it worth doing the power steering pump at the same time... the motor has done 108,000 miles so it's probably due to fail soon anyway?! If this is the case, is it easier to remove the whole frame... and then work on the pump replacements in the comfort of the work...

What are the best mods/upgrades/changes that you have made to your Defender?

Hopefully 'Pressbrake' will remain in the game for a while longer... Intercoolers seem to be a fairly straightforward job... certainly on the TD5 where it is already in front of the radiator... upgrades just seem bigger to fill the space available - I've not done one, so stand to be...

    Inner tubes or not?

Most tyres have cooling ribs on their internal surface... these tend to rub on the tube and cause further punctures... I found this out the hard way, and ended up sourcing tubeless rims. Sounds like your tyres need the once over at the local tyre fitters...

What are the best mods/upgrades/changes that you have made to your Defender?

In order of my preference: 1.TD5 alive stage 1 remap 2. 1.2:1 ratio transfer box (Disco spec) 3. soundproofing 4. Rear speakers and mounting trim 5. Silicone wiper blades 6. egr bypass 7. homemade access hatch in floor for fuel pump Things I've done and since undone! 1. straight through...

    Fuel Gauge / Sender Unit.

On TD5s the fuel sender is part of the pump, located in the tank, and handily accessed from the top of the tank! In my 90 I opted to cut an access panel in the floor when I replaced my pump, with a non-genuine item... the gauge never went below 1/2... finally got around to swapping the fuel...
