    TD5 MPG

I use the Millers one, measure out a bit at every fill... seems to improve things... but then that could be all in my mind!

    Recomissioning rebuilt TD5 problem

There you go ;) Just a thought... Helicoil will be stronger.. but you can clean out with a drill and tap to the next size up... assuming you can get a larger bolt in/or willing to drill FPR too? I had issues with my rotor filter cover... but that was easier - better access, and open behind.

I would be interested in how you get on... I'm in a similar position... I was keen on the SP products... they offer steel skin, and galvanised frames, with marine bonding in between?? Keep us posted.

    Intermittent wiper relay

Flick on... off... wait for your desired interval and flick back on to intermittent... I think that's how they work.

    Intermittent wiper relay

I've fancied trying one of these but thought £40 was a bit steep... does this one reduce the endless wiping after a screen wash burst?

    Fuel filter

Gravity feeding from tank... wont stop until tank drains!... brake pipe clamp on fuel line...or remove feed line and bung end to stop flow... long time since I've worked on the old V8...

    Recommissioning a TD5 engine.

OH, nightmare... I feel for you mate... this sort of thing always happens to me when trying to save a few pounds. FPR's a common leak point, and engines do run with them leaking... not sure if its a massive leak, might prevent purge working - I'm no expert, just seeing where you are, and trying...

    Disco2 10p same fuel pump as defender 110 10p

This is interesting... is it hard to fit?... just for future reference.. I must have brought a 110 pump, as the gauge was out... I managed to swop the gauge sender from my old pump to the new one, which cured the gauge problem. It was a cheap replacement part, but in fairness it has lasted over...

    OIL LEAK...DOH!!

As I say some of this is a bit beyond me... so I had a local garage re-seal by tbox for me just over a year ago... leak's back again, so I suspect the casing has worn/oval so seal wont seal... probably beyond a Forte treatment... so just monitor levels until I can get a recon unit fitted... have...

    OIL LEAK...DOH!!

I've had a similar dilemma with my TD5 at 120K miles... cleaned, looked.... possibly front crank seal!....too much for me to consider at the moment, so I've gone for the snake oil that is Forte Seal conditioner, in the hope it buys me a bit more time!? Only done 20 miles since addition, so not...

Fitting a TD5 Auxiliary fuel tank into a TDI 90

Has anyone done this the other way around....moving the electric gubbins from under the drivers seat in a TD5 and fitting a TDi tank in its place?... It would be neat with both fillers on the same side?

    Expedition UK and Scotland 2018

Hubert... how are your plans going? If you want to get off the tarmac, options in UK are fairly limited... restricted to Byways/greenlanes, and private estates or 'pay and play sites'... there are some established companies that offer Tag along trips - Yorkshire, Lake District, Wales and...

    Transfer box won't fit

Have you looked at the Ashcroft Engineering site? I was on there yesterday, dreaming of converting my TD5 to Auto, as you do... and in their advice/kits section they has a shaft extension piece FTC 5090. http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=47

    Doctor, is this normal?!

That's what I feared...what would be the consequences of continued use?... by which I mean will it explode into millions of pieces on the motorway, or will it be more gradual... increasingly hard to select certain gears. Currently it is a serviceable exchange unit, so at least has some...

    Doctor, is this normal?!

Yes Dave at Ashcrofts is on the case... got back straight away... it was why I chose them for the rebuild... I never thought to keep the bits, as he said he could have probably identified where they came from! ... hoping he can put my mind at ease... or offer a solution...

    Doctor, is this normal?!

.... so it's not 40,000 between gearbox oil changes?... R380/TD5... it's been refilled with MTF94... was running fine... now I wonder what can of worms I have opened...

    Doctor, is this normal?!

Hmmm... probably... what is the recommended interval?
