solution is a strip down of the box
That's what I feared...what would be the consequences of continued use?... by which I mean will it explode into millions of pieces on the motorway, or will it be more gradual... increasingly hard to select certain gears.

Currently it is a serviceable exchange unit, so at least has some value!... but if I could get a few thousand more miles out of it, I would be financially happier...

The box runs fine, with slight crunch into 2nd - but with careful/steady gear change it's hardly noticeable.

To be clear, I will get Ashcrofts to do the work, as I am impressed with their service and reputation... I DO NOT in any way blame them for this.

gear change will get harder and apart from baulk rings you will need gears as you knock the edge off the dog teeth eventually
