    Sad day today

I run a car with snow tyres during the winter which has better grip than the Defender but looses out in ground clearance in the deep stuff. At least the car is nice and warm unlike the Defender. When it's a deep snow the mother in-law will have to go and fend for herself.

    Sad day today

After nine years of a Defender ownership I have put my faithful 110 up for sale due to lack of use. It has served me well over the years, Each year during the winter it has got me up snowy lanes where even the snow plow couldn't get up to visit the mother in-law who was snowed in. Had a great...

    LR 90/110 pre defender question

My 110, 1990 was a pre production run which was given to the French military for assessment. It's a Defender and was one of the first.

    110 axles and modular questions

Sorry to hear it. They are a lot more hard wearing and unfortunately a lot more expensive. Plus they add about 200 Kilo's of weight to your vehicle. When I took the old one off I could maneuver it on my own. The Front Salisbury took three guys.

How long should a UJ last

My Defender is 28 years old. I have had it 8 years and I've never had a problem with them.

    tyres?

You will find it very difficult to find a good AT tire for wet grass. Wet grass catches most tires out. If your doing more off road perhaps you should look more towards something like Cooper Discoverer STT PRO | Cooper Tire but normal road motoring will suffer.

Viscous fan units. pattern or OEM?

I went back to a Visco's fan also from a Kenlowe electric one. The Kenlowe worked fine, but I found myself always watching the temperature gauge . I went for a cheap one: http://www.paddockspares.com/etc7238-viscous-unit.html I have had it on for 3 years now problem with it. I just drive the...

Anyone been a local hero in the snow?

Hi I regularly have to go to the mother in-law who gets snowed in to do some shopping and to fill the house with wood for the heating . Does that count. Sometimes having a Defender can be a real pain.

I use a Pink fluid from Norauto here in France which is a subsidiary of Halfords You can buy for down to -20 or -30c I always buy the -30c. Seems to work.

    Cheap Snorkel

I bought one similar for around the same price for my 200 tdi Defender. Not a very good fit so never fitted it. Its still in my garage, been there for about two years. I wouldn't recommend if you intend it for serious wading.. If its just for cosmetic then might consider it. For serious wading...

Freelander 1 Bad things about the freelander in the snow...

Just a normal winters day here. Cars have snow tires on which give them more grip than my Defender. Have to use the Defender on roads that the snow plow hasn't been down as the cars don't have sufficient ground clearance

    Roof tent advice?

Roof tents work out very expensive. This was my set up. 49.50€ from Decathlon. The tent opens in a couple of seconds and folds away in 30 seconds once you know what your doing.. I used it on a trip across Morocco and it worked out fine.

    300tdi replacement battery

+1 as above. The bigger the better. I went for a 110 Varta. Bit more expensive than some but well worth the extra. I have never skimped on batteries. Also worth checking your earth connections and giving them a bit of a clean up.

    LHD Defenders in the UK

I drove a LHD vehicle for three years off and on in the UK, never caused me any problems. They do seem to ask high prices for LHD but don't know if they actually get them. There does seem to be a market for them. I changed my speedo from MPH to KPH. I bought a brand new one on ebay, I paid about...

    Piant job.

I'm a firm believer in doing a job once and doing it properly so you don't have to come back to it. I think it also depends on what you use it for. I had mine done about two years ago. Since then I have been careful not to get it scratched by bushes whilst off roading in the forest etc. Before I...

    Td5 and lifting it up!

I appreciate everyone has there own taste and requirements from there vehicle. I have a 110 standard height which I also use to go off into the forest shooting and it has crossed the Sahara by me once and several times by the previous owner. Never had a problem with height and in a 90 you will...

    AT or MT?

For AT,s I think the General Grabber AT2's are right up there with the best. In my opinion they are let down in mud and understeering in the snow. Crossing the Sahara they performed very well. If you are looking for something more off road there are better choices. Watching reviews on YouTube...

    AT or MT?

General Grabber AT2's which are OK. I don't think they are particularly good in the snow, they don't have as good a grip as my car with Michelin Alpine snow tires. They are OK in straight line pulling, but loose it on cornering. They work fine crossing my field even in the snow but I feel they...
