hi all, my defender has the standard steel rims. does anyone know any good at tyres that will fit them? i cant seem to find anything on the internet. something that will be good in wet grass and general off road use.

for general use an light off road you cant go wrong with an all terrain tyre. if you are running standard steel wheels I would be looking at either a 7.20 or 235/85 size.
In terms of recommendation on what specific tyre that depends on your budget. I run BFG's but there are plenty of other good options depending on budget

You will find it very difficult to find a good AT tire for wet grass. Wet grass catches most tires out. If your doing more off road perhaps you should look more towards something like
Cooper Discoverer STT PRO | Cooper Tire but normal road motoring will suffer.

I like the BFG All Terrain 235/86/16, work well on the road and all season so OK for mud and snow. Seem to last a long time. Never going to be great in deep mud or serious off raod so it depends what you want.

I like the BFG's, I am now on my second set and I got 100k miles out of my last set and of them with 4mm of tread on so they last well, handle well, and I never had a problem with them off road that I wasn't expecting before trying.
Although I have no experience with them both the general grabber and the coopers get good write ups.

thanks for the suggestion. the wheels i have are 7.20 r16. i was looking at the grabber at2 or at3 but i dont think they will fit the rims. i suppose the mud tyres would be more heavy of fuel?

my friend have BFG's on his and doesnt have any complaints i dont think

That's an odd size of wheel you are quoting. Look for the marks stamped into the rims, they may be hard to read depending on how many layers of paint are on there. The rim width will dictate the possible tyre width that can be safely fitted.

Sure you don’t mean 7.50r16?

That would be a more normal landrover tyre size

+1 on odd size, rims should be 6 / 6.5 or 7

Not on a Defender, but I have Goodyear Wrangler mud and snow tyres on my discovery 4 and have never been stuck. Driven past tractors at shows that have got stuck towing cars that have been stuck in the wet grass. When my D2 needs tyres that’s what’ll be going on them. They’re not too expensive either
