IMO please don't do it, if you are unhappy with a bit of corrosion, change the tailgate there will be loads on ebay right colour, £50 plus carriage, or buy a rattle can and sand it down prime, paint and clear coat.

Well opinion seems to be 50/50 and after comparing photos of my last P38 without steps I think they do spoil the lines, they look like an afterthought rather than being part of it so on Saturday they're coming off. Thanks for your input, I really could not make my mind up.

Way better picture on a Plasma (higher refresh rate) and a real glass screen you can polish without scratching it. I had an led and sold it within a month to buy another Plasma, but that's another story.
