Hmmmm......stone I think, as the white may look a bit ford transitish. Plus white cars show up every spec of dirt.

Mud n Grass, best driving method?

Soggy grass can be a real pain as you found out. I don't think that your driving technique was at fault at all. You could have driven it like a lunatic on a rally stage and ended up slliding to the bottom of the field and being properly stuck. More aggressive tyres is the only solution I can...

Will do (may take me a week or so).

    Portugal trek august 2015 anyone?

No problem. Looks like we're mechanically similar. I'll be in my Disco 1 300tdi (with working air-con). The other vehicle with us is a Discovery 4 with one of those off-road trailer tents in tow. I have the route drawn on 43 pages of A4 with 345 way-points which I have entered into my...

A set or BFG all terrains would be nice for it. If you can put up with the hassle, run it in 2wd and refit the prop for off-roading or when it snows. The early Diesel engine is I believe deemed to be the most reliable engine fitted to the Freelander 1.

Welcome. So why a second D2 and not a Landcruiser or Patrol? It must be love.

    New D2 owner with woes

I know the square root of bugger all about the TD5 engine, however I do know a bit about running engines without oil. Many years ago (late 1993 to be precise) I bought my first 4wd - a Lada Niva. This beast was only 3 years old at the time and was going for a very good price and from a main...

    Portugal trek august 2015 anyone?

After Limoges, my plan as it stands is to spend the night of the 18th at Conti plage (on the Atlantic Coast just south of Mimizan). Then spending the night of the 19th at 'camping El astral' at Tordesillas, Spain. Here they serve the beer in glasses straight from the freezer and as the beer is...

    300TDi losing power

Replace the lift pump - cheap and easy to do. Also check the internals of the air intake hoses as they can delaminate and restrict the air flow.

central locking not working and truck wont start

I'm no expert but I would say yes. If a battery has failed (not just lost charge) then I don't think a jump pack will help. Try jumping it from another car but remove your battery first.

Has your battery died? (The main one, not the one in the fob)

    Portugal trek august 2015 anyone?

Excellent, so we now stand at 3 vehicles with 'Laracroft' as a maybe. If like us you intend to do the long drive, and you would like to travel in convoy, we will be crossing using the channel tunnel late afternoon on the 15th June and camping at 'Liques' near Calais for the first night. We...

    Clutch gone???

Yes it does sound like your clutch fork. It's a cheap and nasty piece of design work by Landrover. If it goes completely, upon the removal of the slave cylinder, the rod will be about flush with the bell housing. If it's healthy, the rod will be poking out by about an inch. Don't be tempted to...

Hi new guy here, fancy a peanut

If it's a petrol one, sell it quickly. Otherwise, remove the propshaft to save you from transmission wind up leading to IRD/diff failure.

    caliper bleed nipple

Even if you do snap it off (which is unlikely), new calipers are quite cheap and easy to fit. My Disco is +2" using cheapo blocks under the springs and I still have to original length hoses. When you do the lift, either remove the rear anti roll bar or refit it will two inch spacer blocks as I...

    Disco clutch probs

Remove the slave cylinder. You can then check out the hydraulic operation. The rod that is attached to the clutch fork should be poking out of the bellhousing by about an inch. If it's flush with the bellhousing then your fork arm has failed. Don't be tempted to pull on the rod as its only...
