Drove my discovery1 200tdi to my dads house absolutely fine, when i pulled up i realised that the central locking wasn't working, never mind i'll leave it unlocked... when i come back out a few minutes later the truck wont start or even attempt to?

The red immobiliser LED is not illuminating at all and the engine wont turn over.

Any idea whats happened or how i can fix it?

U used the key to lock/unlock? If so it may or not be the common issue with a micro switch on the rear of the lock in the drivers door or its operating cam to fail, therefore u can't central lock or remobilise the engine with the key To check u will need to remove the door card.

If you used a fob then it maybe as simples as a battery replacement required.

The alarm central locking also could be faulty.

Thanks for the reply,

Tried locking the doors with the key and even manually pressing down the door pin but no central locking at all, i too thought the battery may be at fault but i have the same issues with the jump pack connected

could it be something as simple as a fuse?

also the key fob battery is brand new

i know the battery isn't great as i have to use the jump pack now and again to start it up, but im having the same issues even with the jump pack connected.

Do you reckon the battery could still be the cause?

I'm no expert but I would say yes. If a battery has failed (not just lost charge) then I don't think a jump pack will help.
Try jumping it from another car but remove your battery first.

If you have lights, hooter etc then u it will be ok to lock/unlock remobilise the engine.

been doing a little research and guy on another forum was having similar issues, turned out that it was a fuse in the engine bay but then read that my 200tdi only has one fuse box under the steering wheel... been through all those fuses and they are all fine

Im so confused

All u have in the engine bay is the fusible links with give issues, there's a few threads on that also.

well i managed to bypass the immobiliser (essentially hot wire it) so i could get it home, tomorrow ill have a closer look at the fusable links, i would love to actually find out where the fault lies so i can do a proper job, failing that, the immobiliser will be bypassed permanently

also tried a new halford battery which made no difference (needed one anyway though)

Will definitely take a look at that tomorrow too

... and thanks to everybody for the useful advice so far, much appreciated

Hey guys, had a look at those fusable links and BINGO!
A massive thanks to all who replied, im well pleased its going to be such an easy fix

My next question... can i just bypass the fusable links or should i put a fuse in to replace each of them, if so what size fuses?

Well done.
The correct repair is to update the links and place them into a box just like LR did with the 300 series. So visit a scrappy and get the box.

I did see on the www or maybe in a Forum for a repair loom made for the RRC to replace their links that are the same as the 200 series. Worth a search if your interested in retaining like for like .

It just so happens that i'm down a scrappy tomorrow as i was tipped off about a nice set of shocks and springs (possibly terrafirma) at a reasonable price.
While i'm there i'll look at this fuse box and see if i can make it work

Just take any bracket u find and as much cable each side of the fuse box as you can, the fusible links are on the lower level of the box standard fuses on the top.
