Has anyone ever made their own front mats?

Rubber stable matting from your local horsey stuff supplier. It's tough and heavy and about 35 quid for a 6'x4' sheet. It has channels on the underside so water can run from under it.

Can you get a reliable decent Defender without having to pay over £8000

Trouble is there are plenty of chancers out there asking 8 grand for 1500 quid defenders. You need to know what you're looking at or you're going to get ripped off. Prices are ridiculous for what is really an old fashioned, poorly put together vehicle. And that's the new ones.

    300TDi overheating

I reckon you'll be looking at a new head gasket before long.

Can you get a reliable decent Defender without having to pay over £8000

I bought my current 110 six months ago for just over 2 grand. It's a bog standard 200tdi station wagon apart from having had the rear windows removed. I've put a clutch in it and a couple of propshaft uj's apart from that it's been totally reliable and isn't falling apart like a lot of the newer...

    90 gearbox vibration/clonk

A decent vice will do it or if you're stuck it can be done carefully with a hammer and some sockets of the right size to knock the bearing cups out.

    90 gearbox vibration/clonk

Unless a rear prop U/J goes tits up which it sounds like it might:D

    Defender90 drivers comfort modifications help.

    I'm 6'4" and it's never bothered me.

    Low speed squeal

Propshaft U/J probably. Soon if you're lucky you'll notice some vibration at certain speeds. Then if you're unlucky and you haven't fixed it one of your props will let go and do some damage.

6ft 2" how do you get in?

I'm 6'4" and I've never thought about it before but yes, it is a bit awkward. I think I put my right foot on the step, then sort of swivel round into the seat whilst holding onto the steering wheel.

MOT's - is the system flawed?

The MOT test has become nothing more than an opportunity for garages to create some income for themselves. Most people just take their word for it and pay up, it's easy money. If you find a garage that doesn't rip you off recommend them to everyone you know the good guys need all the help they...

Who's fitted an intercooler to a 90 with 19j engine

I had a 110 with a 19J engine a few years back. It was adequate but not a patch on a TDI. However I stuck it into a 109 truck cab and it was absolutely brilliant in there. Lighter vehicle, lower gearing, absolutely flew and sounded brilliant with a straight through pipe and K&N type air filter.

    300Tdi Headgasket - thickness

What is it with 300tdi head gaskets? I've owned two which have both blown head gaskets and know of several others. I've owned several 200tdi motors and have never had any head gasket problems nor have I heard of any. What's the difference?

    Land rover enthusiasts future..?

For me the whole point of running a Land Rover is that I can keep it on the road myself at not too much cost. The modern stuff is just pointless to me I'll stick to my 200tdi Defender which probably cost me to buy than a major service on a modern disco or rangie.

I wish I had a quid for every time I've heard someone shocked to find a hole in the bottom of their Landy with no plug in it.:D

    busted 200tdi front prop

Oh dear. That's an expensive lesson but sometimes they're the best ones. At least with a Landy it's not going to break the bank and none of it's a difficult fix.

Which Land Rover to tow a lightweight caravan

I've got a 110 which will tow pretty much anything but if I need to go a long way I'm very tempted to take the wife's Volvo estate. Auto, leather, leccy everything, and the thing only cost 500 quid.

    Stop the indian defender

Parrently they sell about 19,000 fenders a year but they need to sell about 50,000 for it to be profitable. Be patriotic if you must but you can't expect any business to keep making something that loses money hand over fist. It don't matter to me anyway I've got one of the proper Fenders without...
