Has anyone ever made a set of rubber mats to fit in the driver and passenger footwells?

I'm going to have some spare matting from lining the tub and was musing about making some nice mats for the front too. Has anyone got any photos or advice? Will chequer plate rubber matting work or will it be too grippy for driving in?

How can I get it to stay put? Do people bolt them down? Carpet spray them?

I gave up with mats and just painted the footwells in satin black rustoleum

Hard wearing and saves keep taking the mats out to dry:eek:

Whatever you do make sure water can't be absorbed/trapped to avoid the tin rot moving in:eek:

if they are just mats in the footwell they will just sit there no need for glue. You want to be able to remove them to dry the floor out. I have just done the back and front of my 90 in this.

Rubber stable matting from your local horsey stuff supplier. It's tough and heavy and about 35 quid for a 6'x4' sheet. It has channels on the underside so water can run from under it.

Thats exactly what I used. Did two front footwells and the rear tub. Should outlast me.

I used the thick matting I think it was stable matting, I just copied the original floor mats and put the thick matting underneath, certainly made a difference to noise etc.

I got some chequer plate rubber matting from JTF, it was 3 foot wide so fit the rear tub perfect, had to get two pieces and did the front floors and under seats.

Found that it rucked up easy on drivers side so maybe a metal strip to hold it across the doorway so I dont catch it with my feet getting in:)

I used old conveyor belt matting and that works well, Mk2 approach will be with stable matting and hopefully cut a bit better
