Got any detailed pictures or an install walk through, any recommendations for what intercooler to use and pipework etc, from the little information i have found it seems to be a no brainer so want to get it done sooner than later,i have decided i want to keep the original radiator for max cooling. Just to add i don't pick my motor up till Sunday just can't wait to get stuck in:)

I would run it a little while before doing any work as you may find its got other issues.

Just thought with the intercooler it would keep intake charge temp down and help avoid problems, gonna give it a good going over when i get it so hopefully ward off any potential problems, plus I'm getting Modding withdrawal symptoms since flogging the MG

I really wouldnt bother, also you need the original rad because it also has the oil cooler/conditioner built into it.
TD's have a bad rep for being unreliable, but mostly its down to people not looking after them properly or faffing too much with them, they are not built for power or performance.
Just keep the cooling and oil systems in tip top condition (important), so rather than spend money on intercoolers (if its a new vehicle) buy a complete service kit, timing belt kit , fresh oil, flush the cooling system and put in the correct antifreeze, new thermostate for both coolant and oil and enjoy it for what it is.

Not looking to build a rocket ship lol and will be doing all the oils and filters, didn't think of flushing and replacing the coolant so will add that to the list, got a 90 mile trip home with it on Sunday so that should show up any areas for attention, can't wait.

It might not show up anything. replace both thermostats or at least keep a spare for the coolant, my old 19j's oil coolier stat went and I had no idea until I fitted an oil temperature guage and found out the oil temperature was off the scale.
Overheating and bad lubrication is usually why 19j's crack pistons and blocks, more so on the early engines. What year is the Ninety?

It's a 1989 with 126k on the clock, was surprised how well it drove on the road test

Chances are its a revised engine, they are lovely engines if they run right and can last just as long as any TDI if looked after, the one I am using has nearly 200k on it and although compression is down it still pulls like a train.
Second hand parts are starting to get thin on the ground and a lot of these engines are being bought up to put into vehicles for export.

That's good to know, seems whatever the revisions were they worked, as I'm not intending to go any massive distance it seems quite livable

I had a 110 with a 19J engine a few years back. It was adequate but not a patch on a TDI. However I stuck it into a 109 truck cab and it was absolutely brilliant in there. Lighter vehicle, lower gearing, absolutely flew and sounded brilliant with a straight through pipe and K&N type air filter.

If you look on the rocker cover you have an oil filler cap, if you have only one pipe to the air filter you have the revised breather system, if you have one to the filter and one to the back of the block you have an early breather system.
Or you can check the serial number.

I will have a look when i pick it up Sunday

I have read some stuff on here that says if you put a 200tdi intercooler and radiator on it can help keep the engine cooler and perform better.

It has got to be of benefit to the engine having cooler air going in rather than red hot turbo heated air

The idea behind an IC is not so much to make air cooler but more to make it denser by cooling it, it won't cool it enough to make a button of difference in the combustion chamber, basically dense air means more air getting in there, more air means bigger bang, bigger bang means higher ytemps on the piston crown, really I wouldn't bother.
