    300tdi starting

If it was my boat engine I would open the decompressors and crank it a bit to get some oil moving before it had chance to fire, but I don't know how you would do that on a Disco.

Why did you buy a disco!!

Yer washer is rusty? Washers don't last long enough to go rusty these days, my Hotpoint bust after 4 years, rubbish.

    Disco Whining When Rolling?????

When you have sorted the whiny grindy noise you may want to consider using a strop to launch/recover your ship. The orange snake in the pic is a 10m load strap without the ratchet thing on it, a loop sewn in each end. It was £8 from a place advertising load straps, I asked for it special...

Why did you buy a disco!!

Why did you buy a disco!!

I bought mine to tow a boat. I have always limited the size of the boat to what a large family car would pull before now thinking that I couldn't afford a 4x4. Well, I was wrong, the extra expense is worth it. The ease of towing the bigger boat is great. The bigger boat is better too. I like...

Oil warning light flickering on tickover

Last week the oil warning light started flickering on tickover as I had got home from work, 5 miles, so the engine was warm. I changed the oil and filter and everything looked OK. We have been to the Lakes this W/E no problems, checked the oil and water when we got home last night and...

    alarm playing up

I had to disconect the alarm sounder on mine. The indicators flash when I lock the doors but stop flashing normally. The imobilser doesn't work, I can drive the beast. If I reconnect to alarm it makes a right racket. The boot floor is wet though, I wonder if the motion sensors are damp, the...

    Noisy Engine

I changed the oil last night and it does seem quieter, I'll still see if I can find an acoustic cover though. What **** thought to put the roll bar in the way of the draining oil? What a bleeding mess, some of the oil nearly went in the bowl! Getting the filter off was nice and easy but it's...

    Noisy Engine

Mine has done 116000M (S reg) and is noisier than a bloke at works 250000M (P reg), his has a bit of black rubber on top of the rocker cover that mine hasn't got, he recons it's that. Don't know where to get one though.

    Veggie power

Usually the only thing that matters is that rape is the cheapest. Sunflower oil is a bit dearer, like just a bit cheaper than diesel. Olive oil is nice on salads and almost twice the price of rape, put a bit of balsamic vinager with it though, on the bloody salad not in your tank...

    engine wont stop???

I had a 309 tdi that developed a running on tendancy, I had to stand on the brakes and stall it eventually. After much head scratching I saw on another forum that someone else had the same thing and it was explained by fuel pump was bolloxed after miss fueling 2 years before. After emptying...

Would youn rally a Disco?, talking point

When I was rally marshalling in the '70s and '80s it was always good to see the 4x4's come through at the end, especially the V8s, a wonderful noise. They were Range Rovers and Light Weights mainly with some Series. We went to Catterick to help at a 3 day event, trials day 1, team recovery...

engine getting very hot. coolant eruption!

It could be rust but it's not the same colour as the rust in Lerk's pics on how to P a gasket. This is sticky too, a different class of ****e. Hang on, it must be a stick, it's brown and sticky.

engine getting very hot. coolant eruption!

What does radweld look like when it's escaped from the P gasket? There is some brown ****e on the water pump housing when I got it off to change the P gasket. Also it's not smooth, I'm hoping I have found my problem. What worries me is that the only puddles on the drive are oil. If it was...

    p-gasket renewal how-to

Top thread, I just got mine orffff, waiting for bits to come then I canput it back together. I wish I had read the bit about cracking off the nuts on the water pump and power steering pump pulleys before taking off the serpentine belt before I took my waterpump off last night, top tip.

    The Dave game

We used to play Soft Top with the kids. Two points for a Soft Top down. Then folding hard tops came in and spoilt it, and the kids grew up.

engine getting very hot. coolant eruption!

I got the thermostat out last night and tested it, it's working OK. I did put it back together without the thermostat and ran the engine for a while but it didn't warm up so well. The temp needle never moved and the heater didn't get warm. The head was warming up and the radiator and pipe...

engine getting very hot. coolant eruption!

Similar problem on a 300tdi disco, am I supposed to start another thread? Symptoms are, pootling down M61 heater works OK, foul weather loads of spray but that's an asside. About Milnrow on M62 I notice the heater isn't giving any heat and won't even when turned up? Half way up the big...

engine getting very hot. coolant eruption!

Sorry to urinate on your french fries but if you had a coolant eruption the temp sender was right, the engine had a boil on which is what the temp sender said. Take it back again and ask the dealer to explain the boil and eruption if the cooling is working A OK. He can't.

    discovery 2 sunroof leaking

My sunroofs are both glued down with mastic, lots of mastic, in a very neat kind of way. It's one solution to the leak.
