How to Remove Corroded Sidelight, Indicator Units? (LED replacements?)

I always wondered what these were called. Thanks. :) As far as the drilling is concerned, I want to make sure I'm doing it right, before I try it on something I don't want to damage. I'm happy to destroy the existing fittings once I've got something to replace them!

How to Remove Corroded Sidelight, Indicator Units? (LED replacements?)

My 1993 200Tdi has a halogen headlight conversion. One bulb has blown, but the screws holding the sidelight and indicator are all knackered -- heads have corroded away -- so I can't remove the panel to get at the headlight. How do I proceed? I tried drilling out the remains of the screw heads...

Battery Warning Light vs old battery

This is more of an FYI really. A faulty (old) battery can cause the charging warning light to stay on, even if it is then re-charged enough (off the vehicle) to start the engine multiple times. Presumably there was something inside the battery that stopped it receiving charge from the...

    Landy-friendly garages in New Forest?

Thank you. I've made a note for next time. I found his website here: Vehicle Maintenance in Salisbury : T Johnson Land Rover Specialist (4x4servicingdorset.co.uk) Thankfully this time we didn't need help, but it's useful to know there's someone nearby who would understand the foibles of a...

    Landy-friendly garages in New Forest?

Hi All Off camping in the New Forest tomorrow, but 110 is nursing an intermittent charging fault (described elsewhere...) Can anyone tell me the whereabouts of suitably Landy-friendly garages around the New Forest area (we're staying at Brockenhurst, right in the middle) in case I need to call...

    Alternator Pulley Removal (Help!)

Thanks for your help and suggestions guys. It really is appreciated, and especially the quick responses. I feel I've let you down a bit by not managing to remove the thing, on the other hand, having put the alternator back it is actually charging at the moment, so we must have wiggled...

    Alternator Pulley Removal (Help!)

..well, that's the thing, isn't it? The 'old' one is only 2 years old and I'm not really certain it is faulty at all. (see next post)

    Alternator Pulley Removal (Help!)

Thanks for this. It's a really clever idea...if it works! I'll stick the thing back in the truck and go from there...

    Alternator Pulley Removal (Help!)

Thanks, Ratty. This ought to work - it's tried and tested. I just managed to find the really old alternator (removed 2 years ago) to practice on, giving the hammer a bit more welly, but I think whatever is holding the alternator (or pulley) still (eg my hand or foot) is absorbing most of the...

    Alternator Pulley Removal (Help!)

OK, the background to this is in another thread, but time has caught up with me -- have a new alternator to fit, as I'm assuming the old one is dodgy -- and need the truck working tomorrow. I would have no problem fitting my new alternator, except that I can't get the pulley/fan off the old...

    Ignition light on (and off)

Y'know I still don't think of using WD40 to fix electrical faults... The truck was in for some welding recently, and I asked them to look at the horn, which had stopped working (I was on holiday without a multimeter, or time to investigate). They fixed that with WD40 too (the mind boggles!)...

    Ignition light on (and off)

Something else to try, good! Needed some diesel so had to take it for a short drive. Ignition light went off and stayed off for most of journey (flickered on a couple of times). Still off when I got home -- revving and letting it drop back to idle didn't make it go on again. So tried with it...

    Ignition light on (and off)

Oxides, thank you for the suggestions...I'll have a look at the belt tonight. The alternator was bought new in Sept 2008, and has barely travelled 6000 miles, so that side of the connections should be fine; however it uses a 3-pin plug connector (which is now 17 years old!) on the loom so...

    Ignition light on (and off)

OK, fired it up this morning (8am -- the neighbours will love that!) to check the voltages: Ignition OFF -- 12.4V (just powering the clock) Ignition ON -- 12.2V Started -- dropped to around 10V (!) then stabilised at about 12.2V (ignition warning light still on) Higher Revs -- up to 13.3V...

    Ignition light on (and off)

My ignition light is staying on most of the time, but can be made to go off... The light behaves as it should to start with: on with the ignition, then on starting, light stays on briefly but then goes out (when alternator exceeds its minimum speed).... Trouble is that light comes on again...

Doing up rear end of Land Rover Defender 110

If the doors aren't rusty, don't cut 'em in half! I'd happily swap 'em for mine which have nearly split in half on their own.

    cheap insurance for defenders

I'm with Sureterm as well. Just renewed (for a third year). No problems with them (but then I haven't had to make a claim), and they are cheaper than the other companies I tried. Only slight downside is that they are VERY persistent when it comes to renewals -- you may get daily phonecalls (and...

    oil change 200 tdi...

OK, I know this is very basic stuff and a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string?' -type question, but how often should you reckon to change the oil? Reason I ask is that I only do about 3000 miles / year in my 200tdi, 99% on tarmac (shame), and the engine is relatively new (30k-40k, and...

    Heated rear screeen not working

Thanks. I'd expect to see + volts on at least one of the terminals, and possibly both if there's no earth. Don't think I've checked this yet (can't remember: it was a couple of weeks ago now, and it was getting too dark to keep playing! - besides, I was more worried about my exploded hazard switch!)
