Hey all.....I'm new to the forums however i just wanted some expert, and friendly advice on what to do. =)

Well i have a Land Rover Defender 110 Country Station Wagon 2.5 tdi. and am going to begin a project seeing as i am now retired, I have always been interested in Land Rovers and am amazed at how they can be easily repaired and modified.

However the project i am willing to do is to take the rear roof (from back of driver seats to the end of the Land Rover) off and replace it with a roll cage. Like the following Land Rover in the link,
Nene Overland 4x4 Land Rover Defender 110 new and used for sale

However my Land Rover has two middle doors, that i was thinking of just cutting across the door so they would be level with the rear tub of the Land Rover once the roof is removed =/ and welding them shut
(If you get what i mean) and i was just wondering if anyone could help me by suggesting other ideas or any information they would i would find useful.

In theory i want the finished product to look very similar to this image, but without the middle doors, due to they would be welding closed and covered up.

ey oop fellow pastie muncher.
wouldn't it be easier to start with a 110 van, rather than a CSW?
 
I agree with Trewey. CSW's go for that much more than van bodies anyway so the difference in price can be used to help fund the modifications.

So technically you are suggesting that i get a Land Rover 110 Van, and then work around that ??

However, where would i get a Land Rover 110 Van for a cheap/reasonable price ??
and If I can't then i would have to revert to the original idea

if you get stuck I have a brand new and still boxed genuine nearside rear landrover quarterpanel for a 110 van that I can let you have cheap. That would get shot of the rear door on the one side but you'd need to find another to do the same on the driver side.
 
What i forget to add is that once both middle doors are welding shut and cut, they would be covered up with aluminum tread plates on both sides, this would be going along side the Land Rover, covering up the door welds, and any other markings that would be left..

The panels are £510 from landrover.:eek::eek::eek: They sometimes come up on ebay for around £150 so it's worth keeping your eyes open. You can have the one I have for £75 if yer interested. Postage costs would be stupid money as most couriers class it as a pallet due to it's size althouh it weighs feck all.
 
Thanks for that, However i think i may just stick with the orignial idea, and weld the door shut and then cover the weld marks and other marks along the LandRover with aluminum tread plates. (pop rivert)

the covered sides would look horrible!! what about series doors, then you can take the door tops off as and when you like? or just start with a van!!!!

I understand what you mean about it looking horrible, how about spraying the Land Rover black, putting tread plates along the bottom of the doors and replacing the doors with series doors, so overall it would look like the image in my first post the yellow Land Rover Defender 110

However where would i get hold of two or four series doors? for a reasonable price ??
If you know anywhere, please post a link or give me a heads up

If the doors aren't rusty, don't cut 'em in half!

I'd happily swap 'em for mine which have nearly split in half on their own.
