Well the last Defender has rolled off the production line, the tratter boys all have their flags at half mast and are crying into their shandy's while their sheep baa longingly, unattended in the fields waiting for their feed. But good news lads! I've heard a museum have bought the last one. They're going to remove all the fluids, so it won't leak. Then put it in an hermetically sealed glass box so it won't rust. They reckon it'll last a whole year before it needs taking out for a full nut and bolt rebuild. Mike

It is really a sad day. End of an era, like Concorde's last flight.

You couldn't really replace Concorde - viable/economic tech just isn't there (I don't think) - but it does amaze me that there isn't a replacement Defender!

What I don't understand is the gap in the market Landrover has left, with no replacement vehicle lined up to fill it. Are they now too posh for the likes of us? I believe the entry vehicle now starts around £36000. That's alot of dosh.

Got to say, we have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I know people on here don't like them, but it's a great vehicle, immensely powerful with loads of toys and half the price of an equivalent Landrover.

A few years back I broke down in the middle of fecking nowhere. The local farmer pulled my wreck off the road with his 130 double cab, then gave us a lift into town in his Jeep Cherokee. I suppose if I break down there again in the future, he may give me another ride in a Jeep - but it'll be a Toyota that pulls the car off the road - sad!

And the fluids tend to stay within the system.
Yeah, but where's the fun in that? I mean, who needs a driveway that's just one colour.

BTW, did you get any of that snow the other day?I know a lot landed on the eastern seaboard, but don't know how far it spread.

There's people on here that don't even like different versions of their own Landy:p

We've had over a foot of snow for a couple of months. Just over an inch fell last night and we've got a good storm on its way from the west coast that should arrive tonight. Another 6 inches could come out of that one.
