Holy monkey crap what the feck have I just done???

It is a lovely day, the sun it shines so brightly the rays beaming through the branches....

A trip I have done a hundred plus times in the last couple of months, and by chance it passes through a delightful village....

I stop at the roudabout at the end of the village high street, I glance to my left....I glance to my right, I look straight ahead...I glance to the right again....'No wait a miunte that can't be right...' I think to myself...

I swing round the roundabout and up a different road, I stop outside a local sales place....there, beautiful as the day is long, is a 2003 L322 4.4 V8 Vogue on LPG, for a fecking snip at just a hair over £7k....

Had chat to the guy, looked it over in all the usual places, Boot Lining, behind the side panels for signs or condesation or water, Operate all the electrical devices - rear wiper not working, not the end of the world, he'll get that fixed he says and notes it down on his pad....

Lets take it for a drive, a cursary glance at my driving license, leave him the keys to my P38, and off I trot...into the village, up the hills, find a few rough tracks to bounce the suspension about, a few miles on a fast duel carriage way, a plod through town and round a few wiggly bits to check the steering....my word this is nice.

Aircon is on and blowing so cold, the goose bumps are showing, the leather is a tad marked in places, but it is 9 years old now.

All the lights work, the EAS works, a tad slow to rise compared with my P38, but no warning messages, and the bags look good too.

Another plod for 15 minutes, then head back to the sales place.....I like this I'm thinking to myself, I could get used to this.

Time to check the documents:

New MoT, Tax due end of June (£270), al old MoT certs...LPG Registration Letter when the BRC System was installed in 2011.

Current Mileage is a tad high but at 137K and 9 years old that averages out at 15k a year which is about right I guess.

Checked the service book, all Land Rover stamps, noticed an odd note in the Service Book...new engine at 112K fitted by main dealer - receipt to prove it too!!! Hmmmm, but the new one has only done 25K and with the LPG fitted too.

Log Book shows 2 previous owners, which isn't too bad I reckon all numbers check out, the HPi check is clear.....

He offers £1800 in Part Ex for my Oil Burner 1999 141k P38, leaves me to find the remaining £5k or so - a call to the bank - twitchy bum time (thanks Hawaii for that phrase used it a lot recently...!!) they can lend me the remainder, for £90 a month - holy crap I'm thinking....an L322 Vogue on gas for £90 a month.....gotta phone the girlfriend....

She reminds me that I have just returned my company car that I rarely use, and am getting the Cash Allowance instead (£380 per Month - less what the tax man relieves you of - so I reckong thats good for £280 Nett).

I ask to borrow his calculator - OK MPG calculation time....with my £90 per month to buy the L322, @ 74.9p per litre of gas, I can buy this car and fuel it for the same price I am paying for the fuel in the P38....

£350 in Diesel for the P38 a month
£90 to buy and £270 in LPG = £360 a month....

My Car Allowance will give me £280 of that back....so the L322 is costing me an extra £80 a month - I'll just have a few less sandwiches a day for my lunch is all, I need to lose weight in any case...!!!

I mentioned to the guy I won't have the cash until the latter part of next week as the bank will need to send me forms to sign - he says thats fine, it gives him time to fix the rear wiper any way....

I dutifully hand over my card for the deposit....£400 later and a signed form, we shake hands, I can barely walk out of the showroom office.....

WHAT THE F*CK HAVE I JUST DONE..????????

Someone tell me I have done the right thing PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE.....!!!!!

It'll cost more to run than you P38 oil burner especially if you can't get LPG or it has a fault. Personally I think the L322 is pig ugly with that big rear end.
Still I hope it works for you.

That was the reason for the Diesel P38....and I mentioned it many times on here too....I always say choose the Diesel as if the LPG system fecks up, and you have to run it on Petrol, that'll hurt....

I am feeling a little pale at the moment for that very reason...as it is the reason I had to get rid of my 4.6's...the rising petrol price....

I just hope the BRC system is as good as they say it is....

I have LPG on my 110, and I have never had any probs. Just make sure you get it serviced every year, and it shouldn't give you any more probs than your petrol injection system.

Love it mate, I will get one when the time comes, BMW v8 isn't it? Good on the gas or supposed to be.

You have however eaten your own words when it comes to the lpg. Dexterdude, don't listen to him buy a v8 he did.

Like matey very nice, I am jealous.

lucky sod :d

good deal,,, you will love it, you wont be posting as much as if you the p38 owners do lol... i got mine 4 months ago and not regretted it once, take it everywhere, my 7 series hardly gets used these days. and that v8 4.4 petrol engine is so smooth a quiet

The BMW M62 is a fantastic engine.. and I do like the looks of the L322 externally (but still not as classy as the P38, IMO).. However, I really don't like the interiors of 'em...

Something went horrifically wrong with car interior design around the early 2000's IMO... gone were the previous, gentle curves and majestic slopes, to be replaced by slab-sided squareness... condition aside, I'd take a P38 interior over the L322's anyday.

Really ??? You prefer the dated p38 looks to the new ?
Lol

I think the P38's looks are a little more... I dunno, difficult to describe.. I think it fits its shape alot better than the L322, overall.. its proportions just look better and classier to me... although that's down to personal taste, I suppose. Not a huge amount in it, and not saying the L322 is an ugly motor, by any means...

But the interior... the P38 wins it for me by a long way, despite being older, and looking more 'dated' in some people's view. I just find it easier on the eye, a bit more flowing, and less chunky and blocky...

It could have been worse, you could have ended with a Lada Niva ;-)

More seriously enjoy your new ride! And hope you won't have any problems with it!
