well i won it just gotta pick it up do you think it would be ok to drive they said the cambelt snapped and replaced just the cambelt they say it starts ok but surely the push rods would have bent ? but ive always got aa to give me a lift home ;)

So based upon 820 quid for a td 90 with a list of stuff wrong with it I spose that makes the answer to the original question a NO then:D

not really a long list

1 Play in steering box
2 Passenger side wiper has stopped working
3 Brakes pull to the left a bit & aren’t brilliant
4 Heater matrix sprang a leak so has been bypassed for now
5 The battery light is on dim but it charges the battery ok
6 No power to glow plugs but it starts ok
7 Drivers side window winder has gone (but I think he has a replacement one)
8 Grubby inside
9 Has had a patch welded on chassis on one side.

nothing here is really gonna cost anything and as for my budget of 2000 quid for a good defender 200 tdi ive just been offered a rusty disco with good tdi for 400 that gives me 780 to tart it up might be a cupple of weekends work but worth it :)

you forgot to add the cambelt broke and may have bent valves ..............
you still going to try and drive it home then !!!

ive got the use of a car trailer but unsure if my vw van would pull them both so i was thinking of chancing driving it always got the AA handy or maybe i shouold chance my van with a big trailer hopefully the broken cambelt would have just bent the pushrods

I spent £1400 on what I thought was a good 200tdi one year ago.

So far I have spent a further £4k and apart from £300 of that towards a garage doing (fooking up) an engine swap, I have done all the work myself.

So no is the answer.

To be fair you can't generally buy a 90 in any condition for much les than a grand. Seen em on ebay for spares or repair regularly making more than 820 quid, and that one doesn't look as bad as some. Bet yer a pound to a pile of **** there'll be a load more to do than you originally think mind.

and then you get underneath an ave a look and find the x member is shot and out riggers are shot and suddenly things dont seem too much of a bargain:doh:

If I could start again I would have spent more money and tried to get a 1999/2000 TD5. Most of my 200tdi has been replaced with TD5 bits now.

i bought my 200tdi defender 1986 with wellers and muds, new exmoor interior, diff guards etc for £900 with mot and tax. it went through a new mot for a door mirror and one patch of weld. so far i have had to do do, new UJ's, new fuel tank and new cam belt and rebuild seals in front hubs.

either way i thought it was a good price.

sounds just like 90 i paid 250 for cept for good engine.thats if you can call a 12j a good engine.new rear crossmember.new 8 spokes with new kumho 31 10s on [five of ] 2 months tax just out of test. items needed for test two dumb irons one light bulb two lenses rear silencer.this is a 1989 ex bt was i robbed

well i just picked one up for £1900, 70k on the clock and just gone through an mot. no nasty noises while driving and it's fine off road. it will need gome good all terrains and there is a fair ammount of rust but the chassis is fine all the way alomg.

so i'd say... YES it is possible, but i spent months looking for it!

originally looked for 90 for about 18 months but everyone was shagged and for daft money bought the 110 instead
