Hi all,
after many years of wanting a Land Rover, I have finally decided to get one.
While we originally wanted a Defender, we thought that a Disco would be better for us as it had additional creature comforts and was more family friendly.
Unfortunately, after a few months of research (books/forums/climbing in them) I have found out that to be able to stick kids safely in the rear seats (one of the main reasons we are getting a LR) we would have to get a Disco TD5 as it has the forward facing rear seats and proper seat belts.
So we thought that if we were going to have to spend extra to get a newer TD5, we might as well go for a Defender 110 County, as this has been both my wifes and my dream vehicle for many years. (At least we want the same thing, rare for us ), and fit the Exmoor trim seats as and when we find them second hand.
So, I am now in the position of knowing what we want which is half the battle, and have a budget of £4K max, and am starting to read all the classifieds and adverts on the web and in magazines to get a better idea on what is out there. I dont care if it is battered and bruised, just mechanically sound and fairly reliable as it will be my daily drive to work and also be used for lamping foxes/rabbits.
We aim to purchase Jan/Feb as hopefully the market will be a little depressed after Christmas, although so will I be with 3 kids in the house, and it also gives me a few more months to learn as much as possible.
As I said, I have done a fair amount of research and can fumble my way around an engine, but what I would really appreciate is if an expert (read: landy nutcase) could come with me when I view a prospective vehicle and check it over with me.
Would anyone be willing to do this? We are in Surrey, just South of Dorking.
This would not only put my mind at rest but also ensure that we start, what should be a long and happy Land Rover ownership.
Thanks,
/Mad
