Check the wiring loom to the fuel pump!
My 99 plate 1.8 freelander failed to start, it was turning over, so pretty much assumed it was a fuelling issue.
After investigation me and my Pa admitted defeat but luckily ended up with a rather enthusiastic guy from the recovery firm who had worked in a landie dealer in the past and insisted he prefers to get stuff fixed at the side of the road rather than just recover.
Anyways, he tracked the problem down to a non operating fuel pump which is located under the carpet, under the driver's side (RHD) passenger seat. Being a top bloke he had a good look and noticed the loom coming from the fuel pump didn't seem quite right. He moved it, heard a cracking sound and then I was able to start it immediately.
It looks like the rear seat sits on the carpet over the loom and had damaged it inside.
The mechanic did say he couldn't remember if all freelanders have the fuel pump there, but definitely worth a check! (a long with fuel cut-off switch under the bonnet)
I just need to get around to replacing the wire, but it is running fine at the moment.
