LPG has a higher octane rating than petrol.
This is true but doesn't equate to burning hotter - the wrong fuel / air mixture will dictate that, it will if anything reduce the chances of detonation / pre-ignition.
The main issues of running LPG is generally valve seat recession, as Saint said, the Rover & BMW V8 have adequate valves to cope with this. Flash-lube can be added for peace of mind though.
