And it's for wiring up a generator. Most folks would be wanting to swap over to an alternator at the same time as replacing the wiring loom.

Incidentally, I was having the same thoughts about making my own loom as I have two complete looms from Saab 900s that are in good nick. Apart from 'being quicker and easier' buying a new loom, what is the consensus (?!?) about DIY looms?

Anyone with first hand experience of doing a DIY wiring loom with an alternator on a Series 2A?

its ok making yo own loom - but ENSURE YOU STICK TO THE CORRECT STANDARD COLOUR CODES and current ratings, otherwise it becomes a nightmare to fault find when yu have forgotten what you did.

i've done 2 S3s in the past year and it's not rocket science, just make sure you have access to the circuit diagram and the right tools and connectors - and don't expect to be able to do it in a day

although someone will post saying you can do it in your lunch hour

were you really asking if the 2 Saab looms can be modified to suit a series ?

and i forget to mention make sure you use new relays etc as there's nothing worse that spending half a day fault finding your new loom only to find it's that old relay you could have replaced for a fiver

not that that's ever happened to me

Assumed I'd have to start from scratch and just nick the wiring from the Saab looms as I needed it. Guess it's a question of building a loom or pruning cos there's tons more wiring in a Saab loom.

But you've got me wondering now whether modifying one of the Saab looms (and using it's big fuse box) might be a better option...

i deffo wasnt suggesting that using the Saab looms was a good idea, in fact it'll just confuse you and it'll end up being a right bodge

just use the right grade and colour wiring

follow the circuit diagram (marking off the wires that you have run in as you go)

and test as you go - dont leave it till the end to test

and throw the Saab fusebox away, you can get the right box on ebay for less than a tenner

or one of these.

Online too.
Their catalogue has the rating of the wires and usual uses, so you can't go far wrong.

Seems to be sealed, but don't know yet as it's in the post.

what's wrong with using a new orginal fuse box? - vehicles that have been kept orginal tend to be worth more than those that have been put together from an assortment of parts
