Derek the Defender

I have a 2014 Defender 90 Hardtop. I’ve gone to great lengths, successfully, to ensure that ‘Derek’ doesn’t leak...or didn’t...

Got a crack in the windscreen so had Autoglass replace it under the terms of my insurance. They fitted a new windscreen but used the existing, undamaged seal. Guess what...next rain = puddle in passenger footwell. They returned 2 days later to fill the whole screen surround with some sort of sealant?!?! Next rain...puddle in passenger footwell.

My questions...

Should a new seal have been fitted (I’ve read mixed advice)?

Should sealant be used? I think not?

Does anyone have the ‘official’ Land Rover advice on fitting Defender windscreens?

What do I do next?

Lots of issues with windscreen companies if you google the relevant companies. I had the windscreen replaced on my old disco 2 under the insurance by a large windscreen company. I told them that it was a heated screen which was confirmed by the registration number but they turned up with a standard screen and asked if I wanted that instead!

Windscreen seals crack with age on a Defender so a new one should be used.
 
Did you see them take the old screen out? I'm wondering how they did it and where they started levering the seal out and what they used to do it?
 
I fitted a genuine LR seal & it was a nightmare to put in I had to beat the last part in with a rubber mallet
& 2 years later its cracking at the top corners :(

No leaks though :)
 
Got a local company in Stevenage to fit a heated windscreen to my 110 a month ago. £300 something. new seal included.
 
Thanks for all the replies so far.

I didn’t see them take it out but I did inspect the frame before refitting for rust etc (of which there was none :)) and there were no signs of ‘levering’.

So I definitely need a new seal by the sounds of it. What about their insistance on using sealant? I’m sure it shouldn’t be needed with that style of seal?
 
I fitted a replacement screen to my military 110 and retained the old windscreen seal, which could be anything up to 30 years old.
I didn't use any sealer, and there are no leaks whatsoever from the screen.
I don't know how much the fitters charged for the service, but a new screen is only £40, so considering that your excess is likely to exceed that, you would think that they could run to a new seal.
 
19-years owning my current 90 and never re-used an existing seal but instead supplied a new item (always pattern). Never had a leak, sealant has never been used and I always use my windscreen cover.
