hi all....I’ve got a dammed annoying problem....I’ve just got a pair of new door tops for my 76 III, up til now I’ve run it without door tops ( we lived in the Canaries until April) now the difficulty is the door tops won’t close right and it looks like the screen is too far back by a fraction...is there much chance of making a fine adjustment to the screen angle? I’ve not ever worked much with a screen, although I did have this one flat for a while then put it back up when I attached a Exmoor frame for the soft top....have taken the front bit of the hood frame off and will have a go at aligning it right tomorrow, any tips appreciated! Thanks!

heres some pics. I've noticed that the screen isn't centered...so theres more of it sticking out on the RHS *passenger, its a left hooker....so either the screens not aligned right or the bulkheads out....i think...

The screen to hinge brackets could be loosened and might allow a bit movement of screen to centre it.
Never seen that type of door hinge before what year is It? or is it Santana built?

any full side door pics, windscreen hinge brackets look to be welded on inaccurately they may bend or by using washers get the screen to fit better, the above side window roof channels should be adjustable somewhat if securing bolts are slackened and some effort used to adjust whilst bolts are retightened

It’s a 1976 Series 3, left hand drive, assembled from a CKD in Tenerife where it spent its life in a fruit farm, I bought it when I lived there. I’m sure the problem is the screen not being centered right, the more I look at it. The brackets don’t look right either, to me. I’ll get a side view of the doors....

As posted by James the bulkhead ends don't look right and it's got non standard door hinges. It all looks too long and is obstructing the door from closing. Also, are the top roof channels in as far as they can go? It's got a good fit to the bottom, you could fettle the channel outward to get a fit for the door top. Saying all that mine are slightly out, I just put up with it for now.

Take the screen hinge bolt off and turn the screen part 180 degrees and retry.

. Aye, I tried that, doing so helped the tops to clear the door frame ok but there was a 3/4 “ gap between the bottom,of the frame and the BH!

. Think I see what you mean John, do you mean the BH is too long? I did wonder that myself...

Is it safe to assume that the Santana used exactly the same door tops, as others have noted there are some subtle differences.

As far as I can see, they are the same, I’ve got the new ones and the old ones side by side and I can’t see any difference....the old ones are fairly shot, but they do sit in better, more give being worn I suppose

Update, i took the doors off and realigned the hinges, fitted them back on as far back as they would go, Success! Not a rolls royce fit but near enough for me. I havent got any weather seal on, thatll be the next thing....

That is probably a better fit than it left the factory with! Looks good though, although even with door seals, don't expect it to keep the weather out

Also a note on door seals, I have used the one peice seals on mine (they were free from a friend replacing his) but have just them into sections so I can still remove the roof frame if needed.

You'll probably find that the seals push the door tops out and you'll be readjusting again.

X1 that's what happened to me. Their only property fitted with the seals on. Saying that I drive around in winter with a big drafy gap. A good heater helps.
