Just about to start making me winch bumper, plan on converting an old fender straight tube bumper. I can't make me mind up if I should sit the winch in front of the grill or cut the grill and set it back, not to fused about looks.

Any thoughts ?

set back.

What's the point of a winch if it fecks approach angle up?

That's what I was thinking :) ,but I've not long put a 300 front end on it and thought maybe a cut grill will look a bit of a fook up :D, then again like I said I'm not too worried about looks, I only did the front for better lights.

could cut the centre out the grille, leaving just the circumference-make a new un out of high quality mesh with the shape of the winch cut into it

when i had my bumper for my 90 made my brief to the guy was i wanted the bumper as high and as far back as possible, the winch was cut into the grill..

my advice get it outta the way as best as ya can

What's the difference between having a winch stuck in front of a grill, blocking what it looks like anyway, and a winch in a cut-out grill? Seems to me that if you're fitting a winch at all, it would be of more use getting it to work at it's best than caring what the grill looks like, 300 upgrade or not. If that means not having it hanging out front adding to an already long overhang, then cut the friggin' grill!! Or mesh it like Foss says ...

If you don't set it back, think about out how much it will stick out and think how cool that might look to anyone who doesn't go off-roading .. then think about what it'll look like to anyone who does ... You might look cool to the chavs, but do you really want to?

;)

I dont disagree with what your saying ref approach angle etc, but that dont take away the fact it looks ****e cut into the grille.........Just my opinion ;)

I put mine in as discreet only because i thought it looked best for me cos its MY car, basically copied urban panzers article, but i was putting a bigger winch in, however his pics gave me loads of help, and i did,nt say thanks, sorry Urban Panzer, A BIG THANX.
