or one of the weird spanish built ones..

the only mechanicle thing my one needed this year was a light/indicator switch my 3 year old grandson broke trying to "change gear" with it,
a drop arm, as last years mot nagged about it, and one track rod end.
the old girls 21 years old,
done 196000 miles, dont use much oil,
and NEVER lets me down.

I fekin love the old girl,

ha ha. this makes me laugh so much i nearly sh*t my pants. :D
my disco is 20 years old.its my work vehicle, off road toy, tool shed, skip, etc etc. 190000 on the clock ( speedo cable busted and not replaced for ages) so nearer 200000 and the only problems ive had are when ive abused it off roading. i agree, get urself some jap crap...........then weigh it in when it breaks.

Seriously has to be the wrong place to have a rant considering the vast majority of us work our butt's off to keep our Disco's on the road!

got rid of my first one as it was a disaster - bought a lovely low mileage 2005 SE discovery 2 years ago and this year alone its cost £1000 after suspension failed. The electrics have been a nightmare, park brake assist light keeps coming on and for good measure thats the turbo failed. Landrover quoting £2800 for a new one (but are going to try and source a recon unit). I never believed owning a discovery would be so sh@te! i'm buying anything but british next time. Never buying a LR again.:violent:

I didn't buy a discovery for its reliability
It has a couple of problems but all liveable
And let's face it all motors need some maintenance

you bought the wrong one then , simple. and why on earth would you go to a main dealer for a quote... research is the key, which you clearly didnt do.

Well I havent even been here long and I can vouch that the OP is a total moron. My friends series 3 is going along nicely still we replaced the piston on his front brake yesterday easy enough job even for a ham fisted smash em to bits type that I am.

My Disco so far not so bad more out of fear did I take it to a mechanic at first but now Im getting my hands dirty whats cracking me up at the moment is everytime I find something that doesnt work I unplug it lol.............No really...........1997 Auto Disco.......Air Flow Meter doesnt work oh well unplug it..............EGR valve **** oh well blank it.............ABS messing me around and stopping the brakes from working oh well unplug it lol...........And Bertha still keeps on rolling I love my crap heap!!!!! :)

Why not fix the ABS & MAF faults? A MAF takes 10-20 mins to swap, and a code reader should tell you what is causing the ABS fault. Usually it is a faulty sensor causing the problem, but again, this is a fairly simple fix.

MAF I can take apart and fix the one there and Im sure it is a faulty sensor I havent had the car long give me a chance sheesh lol.

The reason I have unplugged the ABS is to make sure that is the reason my brakes have been failing so I need a week to make sure my theory was correct as for the MAF well they arent so cheap I have already spent a fair amount and I am not made of money but I will get round to first trying a repair then a replacement if that doesnt work. :)

lol probably had my head in the engine bay muttering didnt know you ment second hand MAF dont see much of a point most of the time you can clean the contacts open up the unit bend the tracking arm a little to put it on a new track seal it with some silicon and hey presto they work again as good as new so if I was going that route I'd just fix my own. If I was going to buy I'd try getting a new one.

I might be new to all things landys. but they have got to be the best 4x4 ever made. What 4x4 does the british army use (landys) why because they get you every where. you dont see them pulling up in a Jimmy now do you.

I'm on my second landy. Ran an R ref disco 1GS for a couple of years and now run a J 110.

I do feel this guy's pain in fairness but Everytime I fix a problem and it's running fine I love her to bits.

I keep considering a Navarra as I can't afford a newish defender but I feel all dirty. There's just this huge mystical force that makes me love LR's despite hating them!

Julia is, without doubt, the worst car I've ever owned. But also the best.

It's comments like this that make me want to be a Landy owner, and within a few weeks I will be! It's not just owning a Landy but straight away you feel part of this special group of people that work hard, and share advice that enables them to enjoy being a Landy owner! I for one, can't wait!

Put your money into a propper Landrover and you may be happy !! That thing is ****e ! Wouldn't have it if it were free!!!!!!!
