got rid of my first one as it was a disaster - bought a lovely low mileage 2005 SE discovery 2 years ago and this year alone its cost £1000 after suspension failed. The electrics have been a nightmare, park brake assist light keeps coming on and for good measure thats the turbo failed. Landrover quoting £2800 for a new one (but are going to try and source a recon unit). I never believed owning a discovery would be so sh@te! i'm buying anything but british next time. Never buying a LR again.:violent:
If you'd bought a Defender, none of this would've happened.

I'm on my second landy. Ran an R ref disco 1GS for a couple of years and now run a J 110.

I do feel this guy's pain in fairness but Everytime I fix a problem and it's running fine I love her to bits.

I keep considering a Navarra as I can't afford a newish defender but I feel all dirty. There's just this huge mystical force that makes me love LR's despite hating them!

Julia is, without doubt, the worst car I've ever owned. But also the best.

I feel his pain too. I too am on my second Landy and the interior light has just blown...can you believe it?!?

Bloody Land Rovers!! :D

I jest, of course, the interior light has blown tîs true but I've had to replace the rear air springs and a leccy door motor and today the cruise control stopped working. Then it started working again. But all in all not bad, not bad.

My old D1 was a bit of a rot box, abs probs, all sorts too many I can't remember them all, spent loads of money on it and I still bought another one!

:5biagree:

although my love affair wiv landies is only 3 years gone,
I just cant think of another "car" I`d love to drive anymore.

over the years I`ve serviced some series landies, but at the time never thought of owning one.
my landie a Disco 200DTi bless her, is 21 years old, has now an Inherrent engine problem that needs addressing "one day soon"
but each time I get in, or not as it happens, I just switch it on, wait fer the light to go out, and it will start no matter what it runs on and in any weather.
few days ago in deepest cold, absent mindedly (as usual) I just opened the door & put key in Ignition & start before I clamber aboard wiv me bad `ol leg !!
but that nasty cold day I just put key in a started it straight away -
no glowplug time first...it just started as normal !!

Ok, I`ve done lots of welding to it, all underneath, all out of sight, but I have all the time in the world, so its no problem.
Its still shiney in factory black with factory side decals, and tother day It got treated to a complete rinse & wash from top to bottom wiv wax and blow dry too bless its shiney paint..
later, as I parked in Tescos car park, I walked away but just kept looking back it my `ol landie, looking so good still @ 21 years of age :)

Of course, its had things go wrong, why its a Landie, its expected to go wrong,
but as I tell my kids & grandkids,
look, grandads hands, on each hand is an Invisible tattoo on each finger,
M A G I C it spells out.... :)
them hands can fix anything on landies (fingers crossed = bad karma and that)

Me, a diesel & a key,
wiv very little electrickery to go wrong...

I shudder at the thought of not owning my old Landie one day............

Good to read that last post as I am just in the process of buying a Disco 1. Still, as a kid we had an old series 2 to pull a caravan, then my bro rebuilt a series 3, then I had a series 2a with a bulkhead held together with rust, but it was great. So agricultural, but earned the thanks of many a stranded person in a snowy ditch and now 20 years on....a Disco. Do I qualify as a Landy bod? :) I wont mention the Toyota Aygo!!!

Now where did I put that welder?

LOL....
we welcome those who feel that owning a landie of anysort,
is a challenge, but most Importantly, joining the brotherhood of both the fairer sex and us old farts in enjoying both owning and driving a cherished brand of motor vehicle..
Oh, the eeego .. lol
dont worry, I just wished my mrs would buy a prius all electrickery thing, as driving into london would be cheeper then chips then,
as now its a pain driving part way, then getting a bus,2 trains, then bus fer one of me horrorspitals,
then reverse travel home..
Oh, my mrs, she wont drive me disco at any price..
WAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOO........:D

now all thet bollax is out the way matey, enjoy... :D

My girlfriend can't wait for a go, although my daughter is a bit put out that I went for an auto cus she wanted to learn to drive on her grandads farm. Oh well the condition was right and I have already established there is an almost equal split for manual or auto. As for the Aygo. £20 tax a year....mad. It allows me to have my other toys.
