my battery's gone flat and a friend told me if i disconnect it to charge it then it would un-code my immobiliser and it wouldn't run. But i was told by another friend that i've got nothing to worry about. Can anyone help pls?
 
no i have had my battery disconected a few times all it does is the stereo looses its code so make sure you have it at hand when you re connect the battery should be in the hand book if you have it.

your supposed to turn ignition on then off and remove earth strap from battery within 15 secs ,so you dont upset alarm

That's only to stop the battery backed up sounder sounding, some hope my sounders battery gave up years ago. :)

I have never disconnected any battery before charging it, there's no need. :)

You should always disconnect the battery neg lead before charging it. The only code you will need is for the radio.

The method that I have found works reliably is to:

1. Turn the ignition on, then off then immediately remove the neg lead, leaving the keys in place.

2. Now charge your battery for as long as you can manage - the longer the better, then replace the neg lead.

3. Now fire up the engine, stop the engine and check the functioning of the remote central locking.
 
When I have taken my battery off when restarting the engine appears to run rough for a minute or so, just rev it a little, 2500 RPM, think it may be the engine management re learning or something like that

nothing to worry about, just be aware it may do same, scared me first time
 
I've heard of a tip about wiring a PP3 9v battery up so when you disconnect the main battery when you reconnect it it keeps the radio code . .
how true it is I don't know
 
not very, 9v PP3 is not going to run disco for the hours that a full recharge will take

connecting a 12 v car battery for the duration will do it, but more fuss than needed, as long as you know the radio code JFDI
 
the pp3 is just to keep the system alive whilst changing the battery, not whilst charging it. It does work on some motors, but I wouldnt like to try it on a Rangie or a Merc :eek:.
