Hi all.

just got me big bfg's and 2" lift.

some problems - steering very twitchy and dodgey but got my cast correcting radius arms (3 degrees) and fitting tomorrow so that should solve that?
(is there any point getting corrected trailing arms aswell?)

vibrations (only when decellerating occasionally) from the propshafts (i assume) possibly because the angle is too much, although Mr K Gott told me they should be alright. So two questions would the vibrations be from the propshafts (UJ's) at too much angle or something else. (both shafts are extending as they should be)
and do wind-angle props actually mean that or do they just extend further?

any other recomendations for a two inch lift would be greatfully recieved.

everyting on my 90 is standard radius arms etc and with a 2" lift fitted i have no probs atall

My advice concerning 2" lifts is simple - don't do it!
Lots of pain and expense for little gain.

The castor correction will make your vibration worse because it will put the diff nose lower and therefore increase the prop angle further.
You will also find that your axle is now off center by 5-6mm and you'll need an adjustable panhard rod to correct it.

Wide angle props have wider yokes so bind less at steeper angles.

yeh the mate i got the kit and wheels, tyres from had no problems either. just my bloddy luck. its all only about 6 months old. (the kit - not the landy)

:doh: ahh but you cant get 35" bfg's in there without! (i know they probably aren't any better off road etc.. but they look f**king good - in my opinion)

yeh i did think about the extra vibration but i thought i rather have better steering its sooooo bad. why is it that it will be 5/6mm off center?

my advice with a 2" lift is yes do it if you are into offroading and are gonna fit bigger tyres.

i have 35/10.50/16 simex and they just aint gonna fit under a standard height 90
offroad i cant fault my lift kit atall and even onroad its good.
but a lifted landy no matter what lift kit you buy will never perform the same onroad as a non lifted 90

what sort of vibration are you getting and where do you think its coming from?

are u sure it just isnt that the wheels are not balanced?

no definitely not the wheels, spent a fortune getting them balanced cos thats what i thought it was at first. definitely coming from the props/transfer box area. i'm pretty sure it would be the props as Trew. 90 said.

Mine is less twitchy fully loaded. I have a wide yoke prop ready to go on, had a UJ fail about 10 months back, seems ok now.

vibration on a lifted landy is very common, and it's often down to the props - these people will sort you out for a lot less than you'd expect to pay for a semi custom hand balanced prop

The castor correcting arms may well solve the steering issue, but as has been noted this will cause more vibration in the front prop.

I would not fit front arms, but fit either castor correcting swivels or a re-jigged front axle casing. The front prop vibration is very often due to the yokes 'clashing' and can be solved with a little light use of a bench grinder or die grinder. Altho' this does vary from LR to LR and indeed a double cardon prop is the correct way of solving this problem and really and truely all other method are a bodge.

I have yet to see anyone actually need an adjustable panhard rod after only a 2 inch lift. Don't bother til you have done the rest.

I actually Disagree.

I have and you can fit big tyres to 90's without a lift kit as you say. You CAN fit 900x16's to a 90 without a lift. New springs all round and by means of limiting its up articulation. (bump stops) You will lose articulation which is not as bad as it sounds and it will work.

On mine,
I have fitted a 2 inch lift blocks to the rear. mainly because it looks stupid sitting so low with the big tyres in the arches and because when I tow a sankey its nice to have it level. The Rear is the painful part the tyres scrub out unless you limit the articulation as I have done. My shocks are stock height and limited in both up and down motion. My front has helpers in for a small increase in ride height otherwise stock. You do not need a 2 inch lift. Everyone fits it vecause it is the thing to do. Everyone tells you that you need it its a bull in reality. In most normal cases fitting new OE springs will be the best bet and will probably give most motas a good "lift" because most are on old shagged out springs to begin with.

I had the same problems 2" lift & vibrations! it puts hard strain on box bearing (not good) i have fitted double Kardon Shafts AMAZING take everything i throw at it! i just keep them washed off & greased up! expensive yes but worth every-penny.

"Double Kardon shafts" being double jointed at either end? getting me gear and tranny box redone in Christmas so not too bothered.

i just put me wide angle shaft on the front seems to solve some of the problem just waiting for the rear. putting the arms on actually made it vibrate less amazingly! don't know why as i can see why it should get worse. but there you are nice and unpredictable as ever.

Kardon= Basically two UJ's on box side then a wider one at diff end!

It is because this put the two drive flanges (diff and transfer box) in parallel which is the cause of some of the vibration. 'Clashing yoke' is the other source and solved but wide angle props. A double cardon prop will remove both sources of vibration in one go.
