If you have a fuel-pump and filter in the corner of the engine bay between the ECU, fuse-box, etc. and the bulkhead - then you don't have another pump and filter in the wheel-arch. But you have 2 low-pressure pumps - the engine-bay one and one in the tank.

However it's not impossible - check under the plastic liner at RH wheel-arch - I'd be surprised if there anything there??

If there is I'll fish out the part numbers.

My smoke test readings are so low they don't register on the MOT machine.

Just check also that no vac lines are caught up under the top engine covers, I inadvertently done this after a service and had no vac to the turbo, slug mode.... obviously couldn't hear the turbo spool tho....
 
Replaced my pcv filter for the bmw type yesterday,
the old one was really clogged and sticky with old oil,
I Noticed difference in power immediatley, why this makes such a difference I don't know but it certainly did with mine
 
Some freebies have 2 fuel pumps, others have one. if it has two, a faulty pump might result in a restriction methinks.

Had that same problem when i got mine (well not that bad), had dirty injectors, a clogged filter (small, expensive bastard) and brake shoes stuck. arranged the lot and it's pretty fast now (i rarely go over 2000rpm and always in the 100km)

on the 2003 td4, the air flow meter went bonkers. the engine went from torquey to sleepy and doubled the mpg
 
Put a tripple dose of millers in and towed a 1450kg caravan 320 miles doing between 50 and 60 mph and averaged about 28 mpg felt a lot better on the way back dont know the mpg but think roughly 33 mpg doing between 70 and 80 (without caravan). Think the engine is coked up a bit. did replace two inter cooler hoses before i left and the injector harness as there was quite a lot of bare wire for some reason. Also changed the glow plugs and coolant temperature sensor but has made no difference to the blue smoke when its cold. going to see what my 60-70 speed is now was about 13 seconds, supposed to be about 6 i think.
 
I thought that might be the case. There is a freelander on ebay and the spelling is absolutly shocking if you were buying it would you trust it i know we all make misstakes BUT.

You're right Teddy the standard of literacy and bad spelling among the general pubic is schocking. But 'Fat Finger Disease' can affect all of us.

I hope no-one thinks we are making fun of our Dutch friend Willo (he of Belge Freelander Club fame) whose English is of a very high standard.

I wish I could express myself clearly in Nederlands. I did try learning it from Radio Nederland Wereldomroep (the equivalent of BBC World Service) but never got further than 'Vermijd verbrande pap met verbrande stukken.' in the first lesson.

I'm sure Willo will find that very funny especially as I am a 'Scottish Person'.

dan ,, the poor performance you describe, sounds like your vairable turbo vanes are not operating correctly,, (the actuator can sieze)
1, get underneath and see if you can move the actuator by hand, ,
2, as already suggested , check the vacuum pipes
3, actuator solenoid
