I've got a standard system on right now and it sounds poop and as I'm in the slow process of modifying my Disco for off roading so wondered what options I have, ie. what box's can I remove, what can I do to make it sound better, what can I do to make it work better for me off road?

Any thoughts, experiences or better still, pics, muchly appreciated!

I've got not cats no back box and just a small middle box, isn't too loud but makes all the right un muffled v8 noises when you bury tr loud pedal!

Removed cats , stainless tubular manifolds , large bore stainless pipe, one centre box
stainless rolled tail pipe.It's a 3.9 V8.

Seems the single centre box is the prefered option. Are the cat replacement pipes easy to come by?

And if you've no back box, what have you replaced it with? Anything or does the zorst just end there?

what year is your disco?, you may need cats for the MOT- big debate on here atm.

You can get a very resonably priced full stainless system from rimmer bros- mine was £460 delivered and it included full stainless tubular manifolds and fitting kit. there is a blanking plug in the center box which can be punched out easily to make it straight through and the rear box is a non existent token gesture. it sounds just right! good for performance too

got a janspeed stainless system with 4 branch manifolds for an early 4 spd range rover and extended it to fit my 4.2 lse. No cats and sounds like a tvr..... so the police said on a 'routein' stop because they liked the noise :p I wrapped the manifolds to reduce under-bonnet heat as well.

It's a '95 N so Cat is required, but have a very friendly garage that would happily stick the cat back on for the MOT and then replace it at the end of the day when I returned to collect it! :p

What's the life expectantcy of a Disco Zorst damage wise...do they get beaten much? Only I'm not seeing much point in spending out on a stainless one if it's only going to get smashed however nice the sound may become...but if it's relatively safe, I may consider it...

I tried all options and found that back box sounded better than mid box.

Cheap option for me was to fit 300tdi rear section with nice large outlet, and straight pipe centre section.

Now I have Hedman headers and handmade 2.5" system by JP Exhausts in Macclesfield.

Headers £120 System £300, and the power/economy comes for free.

Straight pipe and tdi backbox gets you the noise for about 40 quid :D

So is that the current system or the tdi? Sounds bloody lovely!

Wanted section here I come...anyone got a spare TDi Zorst? lol :p

Mr Noisy you're fast becoming my online Hero! You have all my answeres! lol

better watch your warrenty on the exhaust - quite a few wont cover you if they are wrapped as they are more likely to crack.

Like that!

Nice vids on the tube too! :)

I'll get this wekends event out the way and then I'll have a little play with things...

That's the full system mate. Tdi backbox sounded more raspy but similar, you won't be disappointed considering the cheapness!

Going to get the rear box cut off tomorrow and a straight through stainless pipe fitted. £40. Worth a punt :)

Cut the centre box out mate and leave the rear box.

Centre box is a proper baffled silencer, rear box is simply a resonator/muffler.

Its PROPER loud with no boxes, rather boring with a centre box and not too shabby with a rear box.

Without going and buying a purpose made jobbie, I'm struggling to find an appropriate replacement bit of pipe for the cat and middle box...anyone got any suggestions?
