Hi All.
Thoughts appreciated...
I have a 2003 TD4 Kalahari Manual 130k
I am getting a 'whining noise' from the engine, appears to be front left (when facing engine)
Start about 2,100rpm peaks about 2,400 and goes at 2,800rpm.
Definitely engine revs related not road speed or transmission, does it when in neutral at stand still, and isn't load dependent, same with air con on or off.
Does if I increase revs slowly under light throttle and fast increase with heavy throttle.

Turbo been checked out and is fine, New Silicon Hoses, EGR Bypass, Turbo Boost Solenoid, new smaller vacuum hoses, Bluespark Tuning Box.
Pulls well, ismooth across rev range, doesn't use any oil and water, starts perfectly, no smoking?
No MIS or Error Codes.

Initial thoughts are 'alternator' but maybe PS Pump?

Input appreciated before I invest in a new alternator and find it's Ok and is something else.
Cheers in Advance....

Sorry about this, but I dunno about Freelander. However, most of my whining stopped when I left the wife at home ..

;)

More of a whining, bit like on old motors when you got a whine through the radio of a generator? Not squealing, or even like a dry bearing... any ideas???

An alternator can actually whine if the windings are a bit loose. Providing the bearings are silent, then it'll go on for years as it's not an actual fault, more of a condition. ;)
