This is proper voodoo - can't seem to line up the bolt to get the new tensioner in. No matter what I try!
 
So, I've replaced it now (just had to go to the side of the car to get a better angle) however the noise persists. You can still hear it when you use a rod to listen to the tensioner.

I'm now thinking idler pulley. Does anyone have a 'side on' diagram as to how that attaches to the block? I'll be able to work out if that's what I'm hearing then, I think.
 
Figured I'd update this as I'm on - I ended up replacing the idler pulley and the noise vanished - a much more pleasurable driving experience :)
 
I have the schrader valves too! Car came with them. Always carry a compressor.
