hi guys looking at putting some new feet on the RR p38 different ideas on size 20"or 22" what year will fit p38

You will have problems running anything over 18" wheels I think

P38's don't like bigger than standard wheels

I'm not too clued up on the p38. Datatek will be along to confirm

got 20's on mine, skips all over the place

if youre going to fit them, you'll need to have the suspension, radius arm bushes and everything in tip top order.

my advice, DONT DO IT!

yes they look nice, but make sure they are rated for a 3 ton vehicle. aftermarket whhels crack very easy.

you'll also need the spacers tha reduce the centre hole size to fit the P38 hubs. and new wheel nuts.

i've gone back to 16's for the winter, going to be a lot better ride.

also make sure you have the correct tyres to fit. they are an odd ball size. if not, your speedo will be out and you'll be on the wrong side of the law.

22's? forget it! wouldnt even think about it.

Only 16" & 18" wheels are homologated for the P38, anything bigger should fail the MOT when the new regs are implemented. Not only that, they tramline dangerously on big wheels. If you fit different wheels, they must be rated for the weight of the vehicle, any old alloys will not do.

+1

Go for 20s,got range rover sport ones on mine, handles far better than the original 18s,22s will probably rub if you ever have problems with your air suspension and goes onto bump stops,I had 22s on mine as well ,looks good, but tramlines a lot ,way to easy to damage the low profile tyres going up kerbs at angles etc.,the 20s don't rub at all.and tyres are more forgiving when going up kerbs.

how can you say the 20's handle better than the 18's? i have L322 20's on mine and cant wait to get hem off. it makes the car look as if you are a drunk driver as it skips and trams all over the road. and they are crap for going off road when fitted to a P38. plus you have the cost of replacing the rubber. 2 X 18' tyres (or 16's) for the price of 1 20?

you want some 20's? BUY MINE!!!! complete with wheel nuts, and spigot rings. original Range Rover wheels, no marks, straight, no cracks and rated for the weight of the car. only cost you £600! a bargin!

The 20s handle better cos its a lower profile tyre.and as far as going off road the 20s are just the same as 18s just depends on the tyres you have fitted.almost the same diameter only 20 mm wider?

Actually they tramline more because the lower profile tyre has less tyre wall compliance. With panhard rod location, the axles actually move sideways a little when they articulate, with a decent sized compliant sidewall this is accomodated by the tyre, with rubber bands fitted it is not so it tram lines.

You are also wrong about the tyres rubbing because the rolling radius should be the same if the correct profile tyre is chosen to go with the larger wheel diameter. If it's not, then the car is doubly illegal as the speedo will be out of cal.

i agree lower profile do handle better, in normal circumstances, but remember, this is a 4 X 4, not a sports car that you are throwing around the track. its comfort and luxury on these hence the original design of 16's and 18's with the deeper profile. the ride id just too hard on 20's. thats why they skip and jump.

more rubber covering the road means they will find more holes and bumps to ride over. this means uncomfortable ride for the passengers and suspension to wear out quicker from being over active. deeper profile tyres have some "give" whicj means more comfort and less stress on working parts. simple really.

The tyres don't rub because its a larger rolling radius .they might rub with the alloys being different offset and the tyres being wider. Like I said mines don't rub at full articulation they are 275 45 20
