Hi Guys ,

Looking to get a RR Sport but not sure if to go for supercharged or TDV8 .

Keen on the diesel but worried about the turbo failure and £5k to sort.

I have a defender 200tdi which does all the work during the week the range rover will be for weekends only and doubt it will be doing more then 5000 miles a year .

Supercharged and buy a full fat one as sports are chav motors

^^+1 I would have a D3 before a sport. Get a proper range rover and live in the knowledge that you are superior!

Id also get a diesel, you just need to look after it ie regular oil changes, amd let the turbos warm up before thrashing them and allow them cool after a run ie let it idle for a minute or two after your journey before you switch off.

im only seen a few turbos go on the 3.6v8 ive seen more go on the 2.7v6, but ive seen more actuator arms seize and they can be done with the body on.

2.7v6 turbo replacement can be done with body on
3.6v8 turbo replacement is a body off job

It's the turbos that worry me on the 3.6v8 .

I have seen some nice tdv8 with 50k full service history for between £18-25k but then you can pick up a supercharged for around £16k .

Does anyone know what the v8 4.2 like for reliability ?

Ive done a 2.7 turbo change with the body on .... it would be quicker and easier to take the body off. Massive pain in the arse and had to make at least 3 tools to get to certain bolts.

If I was buying a sprot for a toy id get the supercharged.

But then again id buy the full fat RR instead every time. Looking at a few l322's currently :D

Yep,

Sports are useless, & indeed a chav's car. Either get a discovery 3 or a proper range rover. A sport is a D3 but without space. In fact, the D3 is more a range rover than the sport as it still has the split tailgate. The sport is a hatchback. I look at them as the freelander of the range rover world.

They've done away with the split tailgate on the new RR - mistake me thinks.
Split tailgate is a PITA, makes it impossible to reach all the way into the boot and there is bugger all shelter from rain from the top part.

That's redonkulas... how is my chauffeur and butler going to lay out my picnic and champers with no bloody tailgate... I am so annoyed now, I will definitely not go to Ascot next year,
